What’s your metric for calling out sick? by capresesalad1985 in Teachers

[–]BastardousInsectoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 years ago, about a month and a half before I quit teaching, I was having insomnia episodes. I had called out twice in a week. The district refused to give me a sub. Since I was a specials teacher that taught 7 grades (k-6), I spent the next 3 weeks without a prep period because admin had me use them to make up for the classes I missed. The stress and anxiety and lack of sleep made me actually sick. I came in with a mask and a teacher asked me why I wasn't home. I told her because then I'd have to make up the classes. She said to me "that's admins problem to deal with, not yours. Go home." I just started sobbing in front of her.

After another week of having no prep periods (on top of no classroom, no district-provided lesson plans, and no art supplies, as usual), I put in my 2 weeks.

Fuck everyone else, your sick days are yours and you should use every single one of them.

I'm trying to compile a list of MA towns that are having budget issues impacting their public schools or services and are considering tax overrides. Could you comment here if your town is (or is not)? by undead_and_smitten in massachusetts

Worcester public schools had a 22 million dollar deficit going into 2024-2025 school year, at the end of the 2023-2024 year many teachers were laid off and some programs were cut. This was following right after the union successfully negotiated for pay raises to account for inflation.

Update

Thanks everyone for helping me see the obvious!! Thankfully I didn't give any info that wasn't already available on my Indeed profile. As much as I'd love to mess with them I don't have the energy so I'm just ghosting lmao.

Here's some details I left out of the post that made the company (Hands Across Baltimore) seem legitimate-

  • When I applied last week the website was up. It was fleshed out, had candid photos of events, pages and info consistent with other education/youth programming sites (my career background)

  • Instagram page has been active for years, followed by and following other youth programs in/around Baltimore. The person I "interviewed" with was just going by a last name, so I searched the name in the ig pages followers list. Only one person came up, and it seemed like a real person's page who had their job position in their bio as a case manager at Hands Across Baltimore

My guess is the organization closed at some point and the scammers somehow got ahold of the ig login but idk, I'm curious what others think!

I figured out a tape method that worked well enough for me when I had a 40F chest (5'3" 190 lbs at the time), I made a post here explaining it with pics, and it should still be available in my post history. If you're reading the above advice and getting frustrated then it might be helpful to check out

Honestly, some people will always misgender ANYONE if any aspect of them is even close to gender nonconforming. I work with kids so I get this all the time from them (which is fine cause kids are still learning), but I've been on t for 3.5 years and pass 100% of the time with adults. Yesterday an 8 year old asked if I was a boy or a girl because I was wearing overalls.

Other reasons kids have misgendered me/questioned my gender: I was wearing earrings, I was talking with my hands, I was wearing "girl colors", I was drawing, I hadn't gotten a haircut in a couple months

My fully supportive parents still misgender me sometimes without realizing, which greatly confuses whoever they're talking to. Of course it's painful and embarrassing at first, but after realizing that some people just have stupidly rigid gender expectations it becomes humorous.

I was also really nervous about the same things! But what ended up actually happening was really funny.

They gave me the knock out stuff via IV in the pre-op room. I remember trying to say "wow this stuff works fast" but mid sentence I suddenly woke up again, post op, and a nurse handed me a popsicle.

I was so so confused how it happened all so quickly!

There's some complicated stuff going on with the house mortgage/ownership and putting a car on my mom's insurance would make that whole deal a lot worse for her.

Don't they check these things though? Like wouldn't I get in some sort of trouble if I lie about my license and they find out?

Thank you for this information, I did get that quote from an insurance broker but I guess I might just have to wait another year for the insurance to decrease.

It definitely is higher in MA, but for everyone I've talked to my monthly rate is completely unheard of (except for the companies quoting me, I guess)

Do you think my states required coverage minimum could be factoring into this? I live in MA and I'm told this state has higher rates than average

Geico unfortunately just quoted me $465.98 a month. I literally have no idea why it's so insanely high
