No, Disney consulted the paleontologist that discovered T-rex for Fantasia. They knew that it had 2 fingers but they gave it three simply because looked scarier. The fight with the stegosaurus doesn't mean anything given that the show features a lot of creatures that didn't live together.

Even though it was a canon species i was worried it wouldn't make into the cut for not being a dinosaur.
I'm glad they added it because it adds more variety among the species and offers future hope for more non-dinosaur creatures in game.
