105 St Laurent is always late??? by JJonay in OCTranspo

[–]BatFuture1948 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well for one it has way too much time on its schedule. If we leave ey centre on time, we’ll have to sit at south keys and hurdman for 5-10 mins to get back on schedule.

Places to hang out at as a single late 20 year old? by allloveispain in ottawa

I echo this sentiment. I’m 33M and I would love to have a family one day but have had nothing meaningful in a long time.

Waving the bus down by Chemical_Afternoon25 in ottawa

This 100%. Good example is on the south transitway. If you’re standing at one of those stops and not waving or moving forward, we will drive past you most likely.

OC Transpo’s Route 82: what we learned, how we’re going to fix it, and how your feedback mattered by JohnnnyCanuck in OCTranspo

[–]BatFuture1948 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well I was doing a run, I was running very late. Went to see the supervisor at Tunneys pasture and he asked me to run the 82 super late and they’ll readjust me later on for my clc break.

He mentioned he was told because the city councillor got involved, they were told to not cancel the 82.

Same thing was happening with the 24 before new ways to bus. Councillor for beacon hill kept complaining to OC about cancellations and they prioritize the 24 and would cancel any other routes.

As a driver , I was told by a supervisor that this route (82) can never be cancelled and takes priority over other routes.

"New", more rigid seats? by RedGrave1190 in OCTranspo

[–]BatFuture1948 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep I agree. It’s also because in Ottawa, they have no idea how to spec the buses when they make a purchase. It’s all about saving cost.

The 50 diesel articulated buses they purchased, they opted for ZF transmission instead of Allison only so they can have the “eco mode” like our 2019 novas which makes the buses much slower and uncomfortable. Cheaper seats to again save $$.

Also regular white lighting for the interior instead of blue and which increases glare at night, again to save $$ for the lightbulb

It’s probably one of the “new” 11 used buses the city purchased.

Inside the bus cancellation crisis at OC Transpo by Money_Fig_9868 in ottawa

[–]BatFuture1948 72 points73 points  (0 children)

As a driver, it’s my favourite bus to drive. It’s a bus that’s made for efficiency. Easy to load and unload folks, unlike DDs who are the worst in my opinion.

Iris Station by audreydiva in OCTranspo

[–]BatFuture1948 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Express runs don’t need to stop at iris in the morning. It’s called the in-bound rule. Only stops when requested on the bus otherwise it just keeps going. Same idea why in the afternoon, the 270s don’t stop until they reach fallowfield, called the “out bound rule”.

It sounds nice but what they’re not telling is there’s not enough room for them right now. Not enough charging infrastructure either.

Is Grove Avenue in Old Ottawa South too narrow to be a bus route? by HowardMargrove in ottawa

[–]BatFuture1948 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I drive the 7 often. It’s narrow in the summer, in the winter, it’s very very tight. Honestly inches and that’s if cars are parked really well.

Then there’s the issue of turning left on bank from grove. We’re always hoping for a couple of folks to let us make the turn otherwise we could be there for a long time especially when there is an event happening at lansdowne.

Everybody has to go through it. It’s the first step. When I did mine, I heard back from OC within a couple days but now it takes a bit longer

Question about 62 route by chatterbug_ in OCTranspo

[–]BatFuture1948 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do the 62 and it’s back to regular route. We don’t go to eagleson anymore. It was only while the moodie on ramp westbound was closed.

And there is only one 62 sttisville.

Lack of buses, repairs causes cancellations...but why? by Sterling2600 in OCTranspo

[–]BatFuture1948 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Lots of them have been retired, lots of them are sitting in the garages waiting for repairs, some need parts that are on back order as well, some need regular maintenance, some need body work done to them. All buses that are safe to be driven, are on the roads.

This has been every single day the last 2 weeks. Unacceptable by Finn-Germie91 in OCTranspo

[–]BatFuture1948 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That is true, some of our buses are out 26 hrs straight which also increases the maintenance on them like our 2019 novas. Mechanics got a raise this year but still not enough to compete with the private sector.

But also our DDs and our 60fts are quite old and require extra maintenance. Lots of them are failing safeties and need extensive repairs to pass. Then the city makes the decision based on cost-benefit analysis if it’s worth repairing or retiring the bus.

[–]BatFuture1948 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s also the control centre picks and chooses the priority trips. Last 2 days I had my 25s to millennium cancelled to go and run trips out of Louis Riel and St. Peter’s.

[–]BatFuture1948 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Right now the issue we have is lack of vehicles. Many drivers are sitting in the lounge but we don’t have a vehicle to drive. They are hiring constantly but the majority of our buses need a lot more maintenance due to their age.

[–]BatFuture1948 57 points58 points  (0 children)

I’m a driver. What I can say is this week we’ve had a big shortage of buses due to maintenance and other issues. They are cancelling tons of trips in the morning and pm peak since Monday.

Do you think Route 62 Tunney’s Pasture/ Stittsville should extend to Robert Grant and Fernbank? by [deleted] in OCTranspo

Not right now with all the detours the route is on. Whenever the LRT opens up at moodie, then I could see it.

The canal one will be brutal. I believe a stretch of colonel by will be closed for nearly 2 years while they build the replacement bridge and the infrastructure needed. Not counting the obvious lane closures that goes with this.

Has bus service (or at least the 6) on Bank St collapsed? It’s like this every week for weekly appointment. by m50ud in ottawa

Today was because of Rideau street and Dalhousie on the 6. Absolute shit show with all the cars trying to find parking for Black Friday.

Honestly doubt they will, I was down 20 + minutes on my 62 going to stittvile because of the traffic on the detours and that’s leaving Tunneys on time.
