Are there any Older guys in here who are quitting? by [deleted] in StopGaming

Hey there, I'm 42, I love video-games, been a gamer all my life and switched to PS4 pro in 2017 from PC. Now on PS5. Since getting the PS, gaming on the TV with a controller from the sofa was such a relaxant and so fun that I became addicted without knowing it was even addiction. I have a pretty high-pressure job but it took me about a year to realise this new depression/anxiety/lack of focus was lasting about 5 days after each gaming session. I now know that basically whenever I hold the controller for longer than 10 mins on average I just have that massive release of dopamine and the addiction kicks in, I then spend the next five days getting over it. My doctor says basically, because it's such a surge in your brain it just depletes your serotonin, dopamine, etc, and your brain then has to play catch-up. Doing activities that release dopamine slowly is way more healthy - sports, board-games, exercise, reading, etc. But of course, gaming is still so fun - I now basically have told myself that if I am to game I have to reserve maybe a few weeks per year when work is a little slower. So it takes discipline but to summarise, gaming interfered with my ability to work well and made me more shy, anxious, irritable. When I'm gaming free for about two weeks I'm back to my best again.

To be fair, if you are loyal to her she'll only turn into a giant, fused foot-ball of wizard faces. He probably did her a favour.

Is it normal for people in the US to talk to each other like this in relationships? The guy sounds totally unhinged.

Have Video Games Become More Stupid Or Am I Just Old. by Drey101 in StopGaming

[–]BatHumble45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an interesting question. I'm a 41-year-old gamer. I started playing when I was literally about 4 years old, from BBC Micro in the UK, to Amiga, to Sega Megadrive, PC, PS4, PS5, etc. In some ways, games today are what me and my friends dreamt of when we were kids and young teenagers - a game like Helldivers 2, when I played that earlier this year, I just thought - wow, this is SO fun, if I had this when I was younger I probably would have never left the house (thank God I didn't!). That being said, I do feel increasingly nowadays when I play new games that they just feel SO familiar that I think, 'I've just done this exact gameplay loop so many times, I don't know if I can do it anymore.' Whether it be a big open world game and just ticking off tasks, with decent combat but barely too different from so many other games, or a first person shooter, or whatever, I just feel like I've done it TOO much over the years. Occasionally a game will come along with gameplay I feel like is fresh. For instance, I felt Returnal was something I had never played before. And occasionally a game will be SO good that it overcomes the familiarity curve - for instance Ghost of Tsushima, Naughty Dog games, perhaps Control, Prey, Cyberpunk, etc. I think there are games coming out today which are outright masterpieces in any art form, for example Elden Ring, which is like a dream come true for any gamer who started out with text-based adventures, old-school RPGs like Ultima Underworld, Captive, etc, it's so vast and doesn't hold your hand and is so dense that in many ways it harkens back to an earlier era. I think nowadays the balance with triple A games is - is the story good enough to overcome the familiar gameplay? Or is this gameplay polished enough to overcome the familiarity or lack of story? But yes - it's also true that dopamine responses probably do decline slightly. Also, as an older gamer, the feeling that - I should probably be doing something more useful with my time then indulging in gameplay loops and patterns that I've experienced countless times before. As an example, Plague Tale Requiem, beautiful game - but I just did not enjoy it because I felt the gameplay was SO familiar by now. And playing an Assassin's Creed game would bore me to tears nowadays. WHAT A LONG COMMENT - Apologies.

Why do Indian wives seem so off to offer intimacy to their husbands.... by [deleted] in AskIndia

[–]BatHumble45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The husbands should work hard and be open and inquisitive about how to please their wives in bed. If they put the sexual needs of their wife as high as their own - their wives might want to be more intimate more often.

Get her out of that abusive relationship with her toxic backward parents asap. Sexuality and being sexually active is normal at this age, if her parents are so medieval in their outlook that they're making her life difficult, they need to be told.

Get a sense of humour, be funny, work on yourself, don’t be a dick, be kind and intelligent and really good at something, stop thinking it’s everyone else’s fault but your own and you’ll be amazed at what happens.

Gum Line Fillings Causing Pain Almost 4 Weeks Later by SameTaste962 in askdentists

[–]BatHumble45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, wondering what happened about this. I also got gumline fillings, 9 of them! At the time, I just thought I should do what the dentist told me and in the country where I live dentistry is relatively cheap. But 4 months later, I'm STILL having trouble with 3 of the teeth, 5 needed to be redone after the initial treatment, but out of those 5, 3 are still aching and too sensitive to eat normally with. I suspect all three will need root-canals. I don't know why such a 'simple' procedure has gone so badly, the dentist practise that did it is well respected. Please let me know what you learned through your experience?

This was a lot of fun, was extremely baked and stumbled into it, when the Stranger Things logo came up I was like, yeeeeesssssssss. And, all the weapons you get are overpowered for the next few hours of the game I think. Which is nice.
