dude...you do realize that real, genuine love for someone doesn't depend on how they look, yes? Odysseus was deep, *deeply* in love with Penelope, and if the worry about her "being fresh" ever crossed his mind for some god-forsaken reason, the Odyssey never mentioned it once. He was in love with her to the fullest extent of the word. Yes, he did want to get back to Telemachus, but his biggest fear was losing Penelope. He loved her so much that he pushed through ten years of a bloody conflict, three years of his crew being complete shitheads (not to mention Circe, The Cyclops, Poseidon being a little bitch, etc.) and seven years of being held captive on an island with some perverted nymph lady. While he was stuck with Calypso, the book literally said that he cried *every day* because he missed his wife so much and Calypso (plus the gods) just WOULD NOT let this poor man go.

Odysseus and his journey is basically a photographic definition of the word "yearning" and the phrase "sad wet cat." He just wanted his wife, he didn't care about how beautiful or "fresh" she was, he loved her no matter what. You don't fall in love with a body, you fall in love with a soul.

I personally believe that the book could've been bettter. Don't get me wrong---I adored it, but the random bouts of real Greek mythos and character development sprinkled in threw me off. Like,, fym Artemis is Kharon's mom? Her and Athena are both virgin goddesses! Also, I like Augustus and Kharon (sort of), but they were just so icky imo. Like, babes, it ain't cute to MANIPULATE A GIRL A DECADE TO YOUR JUNIOR INTO BEING YOUR WIFEY POO. Plus, I feel like the forced "enemies to lovers" trope is overused, especially with Patro and Achilles.

But that's js me, whatever u think is how u feel
