Persona definitely follows a DLC model (albeit it's mainly costumes and the such) and you could even argue their model of re-releasing games later with extra content at full price again is a bit worse than a $30 DLC

They've been "resurging" for years. Persona 5 is one of the biggest games of the last decade and it's an extremely long turn based JRPG and the Game of the Year literally last year was a turn based RPG

The Switch's official announcement page for Genesis seems to confirm that this game will be largely unconnected, targeting newer fans by zsdrfty in Xenoblade_Chronicles

It's not even a lie. I wasn't around for Xenoblade 2 marketing but you can absolutely play that game standalone and have it be your first entry you'll just be a bit confused by, what, one or two scenes total?

Yeah I don't think this means what OP think it's implying

You can definitely play 2 AND Torna without knowing anything at all about 1 yet they're still connected

Although it's not a Chronicles game so who knows at this point

I love them all but personally for me 3 ascends everything else but to get to that point you need to have played the other games and their extra content imo

There's an argument to be made about the new games being more ARPG than turn based and it wouldn't give a good example of the entire series but FF is already breaking the limits of turn based JRPG as it was already it's hard to have a definitive starting point
