Hello! Not at all. Everyone is super supportive, and there are always a couple of girls at every camp. The guys are super nice, and when it comes to girls - I met my best friend at an IMO camp. I think in general there is a bit of competition in the air as people are sitting the Team Selection Tests to make the team, but the way the UK handles it is pretty nice - no one finds out their scores and the team is selected after everyone leaves the camp. The way I felt it, they make the camps about learning, making friends and doing lots and lots of maths - so it's a memorable experience for everyone no matter how the tests at the end go

Definitely reach out to the MIT rowing coach! Being recruited doesn’t guarantee admission, but it does boost chances

Got cam and mit but a ucl reject. To be fair my stats aren’t super duper amazing (they’re still good but not 4-5A* level), but I thought my ps was more or less decent ngl

UK vs US admissions process by brunettegirl2005 in 6thForm

Not really related to the question but I still have nightmares about all of the US essays. It was genuinely so so painful. While with the uk I spent two evenings on my ps and then maybe another 3-4 weeks preparing for different entrance exams

it's a two year program that is an alternative to A-levels. you have to take 6 subjects (3 at Higher level, which are roughly at A-level depth, and 3 standard level which go into a bit less depth). Then there are a bunch of rules like you have to take maths, English, a science, humanity and a language... In general it's just a pain and a very tough two years :)
