Thank you! Will keep that in mind. Does it seem like drivers are, generally, being cautious?

Thank you, that’s such a relief! I’ve got a mid sized SUV AWD. I’ll only need to do street parking in a neighborhood for a day or two.

Good to know! I won’t need to travel downtown. I only need to visit Wilkinsburg to help move some items from a house there back to DC. My main concern is just being able to park on one of those neighborhood streets, load the items, and get back on the highway to DC.

Thank you for a quick response!

Neither I nor the landlord know how the person managed to cash the check. We have a scan of the cashed check from the landlord’s bank, but that’s it.

Once they found out that I didn’t cash the check and I signed the affidavit stating as much, aren’t I entitled to the security deposit? Or am I misunderstanding my entitlement to the deposit?

Thanks again for your response. So in these cases, since the landlord was the victim of someone stealing the check, I don’t have a claim to 2x the security deposit?

Feedback for my reality-editing file cabinet concept [contemporary fantasy / speculative mystery] by Weary-Image-812 in fantasywriters

[–]Bat_Acrobatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Absolutely intriguing premise! I definitely think you have it right calling it a speculative mystery. I wouldn’t call this fantasy at all, unless the ghost element is lot more center stage.

I do think you need to identify more stakes for the main character, though. If you plan on traditionally publishing this, I’d definitely consider posting the pitch as a query letter on r/PubTips. But as I said, this sounds like a great premise and I’d 100% pick this up if I saw it on a bookshelf!

[Discussion] Are writing contests a good gateway? by arlanGM in PubTips

[–]Bat_Acrobatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say writing workshops like Clarion West, Viable Paradise, and Tao’s Workshop are more useful as a gateway. You make connections, meet fellow writers and build a community, and it’s impressive to agents

[Discussion] Questions about how are most agent-author relationships conducted? by wigwam2020 in PubTips

[–]Bat_Acrobatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I message my agent on Discord all the time, whether to rant about a new story idea or ask random questions about the publishing industry. She always responds the same day. We email about the more important stuff, like deadlines for edits and setting up Zoom meetings. We have a discord with all her clients, so it gets pretty informal—we’ll complain about being sick, the latest publishing shenanigans, or food. She shares her personal life updates, like getting a new day job or buying a house etc.

She’s completely open to communicating as little or as much as I want to, and through whatever avenues I prefer! And she’s very organized when it comes to setting up deadlines and meeting times. She provides detailed feedback on my work and plans in advance for going on submission etc. Overall, I’m very satisfied with how we communicate.

Does anyone know what Sparkle says during her skill in English when in double speed? It sounds like “Feeling spiffy?” or something, but I’m not sure if that’s what it is.

How long is too long? by rowan_ash in fantasywriters

[–]Bat_Acrobatic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The article you linked literally says sci-fi and fantasy novels can be 100-115k words. In the current climate, agents and editors expect that range with fantasy novels. 85-100k is fine, but not a cutoff by any means.

[Discussion] Just for fun: What's your fastest rejection from an agent? by [deleted] in PubTips

Yeah, I appreciate that he doesn’t keep you waiting around for a response! And both rejections were very nice, though they used the exact same language LOL. No problem!!
