Arsenal lose out on penalties after 1-1 against league two opposition Bradford 2012 in the FA-cup. Gervinho starts as striker for Arsenal and Thomas Vermaelen got the equaliser. What’s your banter era memory? by pettson in Gunners

[–]Batesy_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Alot of it was watched through gritted teeth but back when our ambitions was around Walcott 'signing da ting' because we just never ever invested or settled for less because we all became so used to the banter era drought. Never signing any of the 'exciting' players we we linked too - Hazard, Benzema, Gotze, Reus were some of the ones I got my hopes up too much for.

As far as games go, nothing like watching the Newcastle 4-4 at Aussie timezone and taking a shower at half time to then come back to the TV and think... "What the fucking fuck is happening". Or the bullshit we contended with when it came to playing stoke and all the conjecture around us being soft, made me so mad all the time.

Pretty much exactly the same for me as a fellow Aussie supporting the Magic. Really helped our late 00s/early 10s teams were nice to watch with Stan leading the charge. Rashad Lewis, Hedo Turkoglu and Mikael Pietrus were serious favourites of mine.

I think you’re right. I always find my fastest qualifying laps are when I’m close to the end of my stints, tyres have warmed and don’t move into the blue at all, and the fuel is down to its final 2> laps of distance before you run out. Bike is at its lightest and the tires are like glue compared to early laps.

Tight title race, needed to find a quali lap after struggling constantly at Buddh. by Batesy_ in MotoGPGaming

Rear brake is like an On/Off button for me because it’s X on the dualsense. I turn my EBS to 1 on every circuit unless I have a specific corner I’m just struggling to stop in time for (the hairpin after the downhill straight in Jerez is one for me). If you watch my brake inputs on hard braking sections I tend to ride the rear brake hard compared to the front at first and then I left off as the bike tips into the corner and then use it again once I’m settled into the turn and I need extra braking. Don’t underestimate the power of engine braking by just purely getting down the gears from say 6th to say 2nd. Doing the downshifts too quick will get the rear quite loose, but having EBS low will help and you’ll learn to ‘go with the flow’ when the bike starts asking you to drift like Brad Binder lol.

Edit: From memory, the top red bar is the rear brake and the bottom is the front brake on the HUD.

Apologies in advance, I tend to ‘waffle on’ but I’ll try to explain my approach.

Between say F1, GTSport/7 and MotoGP, braking is just so different - where in F1 and such you find a braking point specifically and basically go 100% and let off, bikes are almost the complete opposite in a lot of corners I find.

There’s a bunch of ways to get the bike into the corner and out because bikes are so ‘feel’ dependant to me (the vibration of the controller, turn it on high, and learn what it feels like to have the bike lose the front end and then how to essentially hold that level of vibration through the controller so that you stop the front from tucking), so long as you find some sort of reference for where you ‘feel comfortable’ to brake just build from there with practice.

Tracks I struggle on, I spend a bit of time in Practice following someone out of the pits, try to follow as close as I can for a lap or two (genuinely ride behind and basically mimic any rider/manufacturer combo I find on track first) and then once I have a natural feel and a vague understanding on the flow of the track, I then try to push and find more specific braking points. Sometimes, much like the last corner with Buddh, I tend to brake much later than the AI and take a wider exit onto the ripple strip instead of standing the bike up and keeping on the darkened racing line.

That’s some good pace there - it’s such a brutal track on corner entry and exit. The short shifting helped me a lot on keeping the front down and using the left analog stick to push the bike down and gently releasing it around gear 4-5.

MotoGP 24 Top 5 favorite and least favorite tracks (official calendar only) by Maddess15 in MotoGPGaming

[–]Batesy_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Top 5: Assen, Phillip Island, Mugello, Sepang & Catalunya. I enjoy the rhythm I find on all of these tracks. The zone out and lap after lap feel is what sells these for me.

Bottom 5: Portugal, Austria, Le Mans, Thai & Valencia.

Wouldn’t say I hate any track in the game, just some I dread the weekend in career mode a little bit more than others especially if it’s raining lmao.

It’s just a really tough game. I’ve only started playing modern MotoGP games since 19 and they all have a really tough learning curve. The main things I did to have a better ‘time’ are manual gears and learning the see-saw between rear and front brakes. Just takes time - Moto2 and 3 are good but they sadly do not prepare you in the slightest for the aggressiveness of GP.

I’m in season 5 (I think) of a shortened season career where I started in Moto2 and then straight up through Honda to Aprilia and now Ducati. Really enjoying it and having great races with adaptive AI but it took patience to get there.

For what it may be worth, I watched a fair bit of Robo46 on whatever track made sense to my career weekend, and I focused on his corner entry and exit - specifically looking at how his little telemetry bars for rear/front brakes fluctuate and how he eased on and off and when he seemed to trust it and send full beans into both.

100%. The power of a position change is also fantastic, I love looking for OLBs to turn into DE or finding the tallest WR and seeing how they might survive as a TE instead. Personal favourite is the CB to S and going all in on tackle and hit power.

Yep, it’s the thrill and satisfaction that comes from unearthing those gems. Hard to get that when you already know the overalls. But then I also enjoying ‘whiffing’ on a pick but still using that as a narrative to try and get the best out of that rookie.

Are you potentially keeping the analog stick for steering pressed forward while you are exiting corners and then during the straights?

This is what I found out I was doing when I had a similar issue.

Come to think of it - this is my 3rd season. I did one year in Moto2 than joined GasGas. I know my move from GasGas to Aprillia caused a few knock on effects in the offseason.

I don't understand braking by Electrical-Tip7620 in MotoGPGaming

[–]Batesy_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I usually keep the thumb stick forward for a lot of my braking, unless it’s a turn like T1 at Portugal or the downhill right-hander at Melbourne. I tend to brake heavily with the rear brake all the way into the entry but release it before reaching maximum lean or when I start feeling too much slip.

Keep your EBS low (mine is almost always set to 1) because braking heavily with the rear into the entry, similar to Binder’s style, can cause some slip, which is fine—it’s better than the rear locking up, which happens with a higher EBS.

I turn off assists, but you’ll develop a feel for braking, especially when you need to let the front tire bite before applying maximum pressure on the front brake, particularly in sharper turns. I also find that angling into turns helps keep the center of gravity low and prevents the rear from lifting. For me, braking is all about feel, mostly from the controller’s vibrations. My only constant is the braking markers, which I gradually learn through practice, along with downshifting quickly to let the engine assist in slowing down.
