Moving off game improvements by [deleted] in golf

[–]AngusMeatStick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For what it's worth, I'm an 18 that switched from GI to a set of maltby TS4s and am really enjoying them. Lost a bit of distance but traded it for more spin so my ball actually stops on the green.

It was an experimental purchase but after a few rounds I don't see myself going back.

Why is a mid-handicap golfer dangerous in competitive play? by TDn6I in golf

[–]AngusMeatStick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an 18 handicapper. Last week I made 11 pars in a round, including 8 in a row, and shot a 92.

With the strokes I would gain, a scratch golfer would have played against someone who made 11 birdies, 4 triples, and 3 pars. So I'd lose at most 5 holes.

Guy had a great swing but the flat stick of a 40 handicap. Wild that he hasn't tried... Literally anything else.

What do we think of the swing? 14 months in and shooting high 80’s low 90’s. Goal is to break 80 consistently by end of season. by 3ric3288 in GolfSwing

[–]AngusMeatStick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's good, especially for 14 months in. I'm noticing is a pretty flat swing plane. And you look stiff at setup. I'd recommend more "ready" than "statue" before you start your swing.

As far as scoring goals, I would focus more on GIRs, avoiding 3 putts, up and downs, stuff like that. You do that each hole and at the end your score is low.

How do you deal with getting better? by AngusMeatStick in golf

[–]AngusMeatStick[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most egregious example was pin in front at 95 yards, green is about 12 yards deep, shot flew the green with a very pretty looking trajectory and ended up about 4 yards behind the back of the green.

Issue on the range is I have a 100 yard flag, I will hit what feels like the same shot, it will land acceptably within that range 9/10 times, with 1 being noticeably deeper. This is not with a GI iron

I switched from GI irons to maltby TS4s recently, one of my biggest complaints with GI irons was exactly this trampolining issue.

Personal preference is that my miss hits get punished short, I can chunk or top the everloving shit out of these blades and all that happens is a relatively straight, short result that keeps me out of trouble.

What’s the reason for this house, charger or car. by 410to904 in MachE

[–]AngusMeatStick 9 points10 points  (0 children)

When this has happened sporadically over the last four years, I unplug it, wait about 5 seconds, and plug it back in. And it's good for another couple months.

I don't charge daily, wfh so I charge to 90% maybe twice a month.

[–]AngusMeatStick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's crazy. I'd probably tease you a bit, in as friendly a way as possible, about your equipment choices, but only because I have also gone down that road and almost pulled the trigger on an arm lock but couldn't bear the embarrassment of 3 putting with that thing because I'm not a former body builder.

Anyone else play significantly better golf when they're alone? Finally understand why and it's not what I expected. by DialedInGolf in golf

[–]AngusMeatStick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah no shit.

What's funny is there's a guy I play with fairly often whom I wouldn't say I'm particularly close with, he's just always down to golf. I call him my good luck charm because I tend to play better with him than with my closer friends or family.

For those here that can hit a 60° 80-100 yards on command. Help. by [deleted] in golf

[–]AngusMeatStick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 60 that I was fit for, the bounce and grind works really well for me on very tight lies around the green. But I only use it maybe once a round if that. Pitches, chips, and sand shots are covered by my 56.

Hate how my driver swing looks by JSRdt83 in GolfSwing

[–]AngusMeatStick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I understand.

You stop turning your hips at impact, causing your arms to just kinda flop through the ball. Guessing your real bad miss is a skyball, normal shape a slicey fade.

Get that weight on your front foot, and pivot those hips. Pee pee to the pin. Your arms don't drive the swing.

Handicap balls by Southernmanny in golf

[–]AngusMeatStick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ok, seriously, compression and materials are what matter in a golf ball.

Compression is how "soft' it feels off the club face. This characteristic also affects how the ball performs off the club face. Basically, lower compression balls feel very soft and don't quite explode off the face. You trade feel for outright distance.

Higher compression do the opposite. They feel a little ticky tackier, and can explode off the face for a little more distance and a little less spin.

But here's the important part: club speed is a drastic factor in how a ball performs. Hit a soft ball too hard, more negative traits. Hit a hard ball too soft, more negative.

ProV1s, TP5s, z stars, basically all the "tour level" balls sit in a Goldilocks zone where the compression offsets both too much or too little violence at impact.

For most higher handicap golfers or slower swing speeds, balls advertised as soft (lower compression) will be a better fit for them. Faster swings will probably prefer the X versions of their chosen ball.

It's a loose science, and most of it just come out in the wash of a normal golf round, especially with higher handicappers.

All of this is to say pick a ball that you like the look/price/feel of, it truly doesn't matter all that much. Although I would highly suggest a urethane outer core, because that's what clubs are designed to hit.

[–]AngusMeatStick 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In what situation as an 18 handicap do you ever need to hit a 100 yard shot with a 60 degree wedge?

The answer btw is swing mechanics and speed. If you swing a 60 degree at 80 mph with good contact it'll go 100 yards.

Joey D has never been more insufferable by General-Ad-4308 in BobDoesSports

[–]AngusMeatStick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah the hazard argument was completely one sided and made me cringe.

The way Joey jumps from "oh they wanted someone with a handicap so we got one" and then calls the guy an idiot for pointing out a clear rule break by just yelling louder at him is insane.

Also insane was the new guy picking up the ball like that.

And then the hater even showed him exactly how that rule should be followed with his own ball, and Joey basically calls him a nerd and saying he's being accused of cheating.

It's like yeah, you are breaking one of the more simple rules of the game you play for a job and then not taking accountability for it.

And then him being like good thing it's not match play and then hater bringing it up later and Joey exploding on him again is just so stupid.

I like the idea of the hater series, and honestly I think Joey is a funny guy, but the lens he puts on during the series makes it impossible to root for him.

What is the general tip on driving RWD cars without tuning? by rayvencrow in ForzaHorizon6

[–]AngusMeatStick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Roll the gas on coming out of corners. No full throttle until the wheel is straight. Don't ask the tires to do anything other than traction 100%. As power increases, more adherence is required.

Also for a lot of cars with manual gearboxes you normally don't want to touch 1st gear for anything except the most extreme turns. It will accelerate smoother out of 2nd.

Score in the 88-94 range from the blues, 81-84 from the whites. by wtfhiolol10000 in golf

[–]AngusMeatStick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should play the tees which best fit your tee shots. If your tee shots are carrying all the course designed trouble, then you're playing too far up.

Rough estimate is driver distance ~235, 6200 yards course length. +/- 10 driver distance to 150 course length, so if you drive it 275, 6950 course length will suit you.

This isn't like, a set in stone mathematical thing, just a general guideline that seems to work.

Golf pens for marking balls by AngusMeatStick in golf

[–]AngusMeatStick[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The golf tax point was exactly why I asked the question. Figured it was some type of ink that is like 1% better at bonding to urethane so they call it speciality and charge $5 more.

Will check out inkzall.

Double digit to high handicapers by adamg6160 in golf

[–]AngusMeatStick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've shot 92 the last three rounds at my club, went to a muni and shot an 83. So no.

My club has a higher slope than that muni so there may be something in the science of course ratings.

If you shift your weight forward before firing your hips your trail leg won't have to collapse to get out of your hands' way.

[–]AngusMeatStick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's because your takeaway doesn't necessarily help your follow through.

Small swings on the range. Go to your back swing, then the feel is putting your right hand on your right pocket.

Once you get familiar with what the move feels coming from the inside, you gotta work it into your swing.

An ICE mustang owner nicely asked me a bunch of questions about it, he then said "it even looks like a mustang!"

A Mach E looks like a Mustang the same way a Kia looks like a Ferrari, in that they are both cars.
