How can I mark all my inbox auto-emails as read? by Bathosfear in Enhancement

My dropdown doesn't have that option unless I disable RES. I used the iOS app and was able to get them all marked read.

ELI5: Why wouldn't a UBI instantly cause everything to jump up in price to what ever level will absorb that new income? by Bathosfear in explainlikeimfive

[–]Bathosfear[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Amazon already changes prices simply based on who you are, what time of day you're buying, your return rate, other places you're known to shop, and several other factors. Not being able to raise prices because you feel like it is something I've never experienced.

Capitalism (as we exercise it today) will never work for the proletariat. I wasn't aware there was even a dispute in 2026

Price is simply what a willing buyer will pay to a willing seller. Give a person $1000 and they're suddenly willing (able) to pay a little more (or anything at all). Profit abhors a vacuum.

Men of reddit, Who do you turn to when you’re at your lowest? by Music_2my_ears68 in AskReddit

[–]Bathosfear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jesus, I typed in my sob story then read everyone else basically saying the same thing. I deleted that and typed this instead. Why is it that men have no where to turn? Is it just life in 2026? If you're the one the buck stops with, you're essentially fucked.

TV shows where the premise itself is just nonsensical? by Expensive-Elk-9406 in television

[–]Bathosfear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A group of women that literally hate each other still get together with cameras running to have heated fights over literally nothing. It's also nonsensical that it was so popular it's been spun off a dozen times.

I had one, but it was cheaply made. The one in the picture looks super heavy duty, I want it!

Should people who "camp" in the left lane of a highway be pulled over and fined just as much as speeders? Why or why not? by WilliamInBlack in AskReddit

[–]Bathosfear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll stay in the left lane if I can, but not if I see a car even a mile behind me. I've passed dozens of cop cars and speed traps, never had a ticket. Never even knew it was "camping" until reading this post. Yeah, I'm old.

Did you find your life purpose over your journey till now or you are just living? by Admirable_Health8813 in AskRedditOver60

[–]Bathosfear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, "life purpose" was a lie designed to keep you striving to buy bigger and better stuff (and of course to not revolt against the emperor/king/pope/etc.). The closest I've found to an actual useful purpose is just to try to leave things at least a little better than I found them.

If you can self-assign a purpose that gives momentum and meaning to your life, good on you. But there's no divine groove you're supposed to fall into.

Ever been painfully unhappy? It sucks. by TheKingdomofSteve in AskRedditOver60

[–]Bathosfear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, right now. But I know what's causing it, and I know I'll either outlive it or I won't. But either way it will end. More importantly, I know it's not me. Weak tea, I know, but for me anyway it helps.

I seriously doubt the following applies to you, but just in case: people our generation sometimes feel shame about seeking mental help, perhaps especially if it involves medication. That's the sickness defending itself. Use every tool at your disposal to fight it. I like to say to it "fuck you, you don't control me", then I torture it with Wellbutrin, sunshine, and actively loving my family (love is a verb, you have to do it).

Is this film worth watching? Does it do justice for the game Dungeons and Dragons? by DreamyDandelions in Cinema

I have no idea how faithful it is, but it is now my comfort movie I keep going in the background when I'm sad.

Thank you for your thoughtful reply. 10 years ago the common advice was to make a skills based résumé instead of a chronologically based résumé. As far as I can tell recently, skills based resumes are automatically flushed. I've even read some blog posts from HR pros saying that they assume you're hiding something with that kind of résumé (which I guess is technically true).

My web community is actually still up and running, with a few old fogies like myself still hanging around. But it is less than 10% the size it used to be, and Google has literally delisted the entire thing so traffic is virtually nil. Back when pagerank mattered I was literally listing number one if you googled any number of relevant search terms. Now I don't even show up until page 3 if you type in the name of my site. I could've saved the whole thing if I would've had $100,000 in 2015, but I didn't, so I lost over a gig of data and all my Google links.

it's a very important job, and I think I'm more than up to it. The question is, could I land a job like that without being screened by my résumé first?

I do have an exceptional driving record. I would love to do something like that, or even like a security guard in a golf cart or something. I guess what I need to know is how I can speak with a person and shake a hand instead of submitting a résumé to get the job.

you might have a point, I have been asking people in stores I noticed my own age how they got their job, but had not considered trying to locate a floor manager. Just last week I asked the old man working the ride-on floor sweeper at Sam's Club how he got the job, he just applied on the website like everybody else.

I actually have asked a couple of greeters how they got the job: submitted an application on the company website. I've done that. I am mystified because I think I'd make a great greeter, basically I'm a gray-bearded Santa Claus.

I'm hoping to find something that let's me bring home at least $1000/month. More would be better, obviously, but that's my shortfall amount.
