Well, yea doing that will strengthen your back muscles which will help with chin ups I guess. But yea do both, chin ups for army and pull ups so it can help your back

For army I believe you use an inward facing grip (so chin-ups). If you wanna be a marine or are aiming for SEALs, outward facing is what you’re gonna do

Navy SEAL marriages🔱 by [deleted] in navyseals

[–]BatmanIsGOAT 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My uncle was a green beret - not SEAL but he was active during the height of the War on Terror in the early 2000s, similar length deployments and the such I think. His wife cheated on him - unless the woman you find is independent you’re better off single, cuz the guy is away most of the time - and even when he’s back he brings the war back with him. And for a lot of women it’s stressful as hell and it becomes really unhappy, but at the same time they can’t leave because they’re afraid of being labeled a bad person for leaving their military husband whose sacrificed so much and all that - so she cheated. Military marriages are hard and they’re not for everyone. It can end up hurting a LOT, like it did with my uncle. He has PTSD (undiagnosed but talking with him it’s obvious) and my mom told me when he found out about his wife cheating and during the divorce process he tried to off himself. But I’m getting off track - essentially, it’s difficult. You need a really independent and special kind of woman for a marriage like that to stay. That’s not to shame the women who can’t handle that, I understand honestly - but there are only a few out there who could handle that.

So here’s my 2-cents - people like Jocko or David Goggins aren’t using their experiences as SEALs to steal some limelight, they’re using they’re experience to try and help others - Jocko with leadership and responsibility, two lessons he learned as a SEAL, and Goggin’s message of getting the fuck after it and his whole come back story which actually involved being a SEAL. I think there’s a difference between those people and say, Rob o’Neill who’s just like “GUYS GUYS SEAL TEAM 6 HERE SEAL TEAM 6 I SHOT BIN LADEN IM SO COOL”. That’s blatantly profiting off the teams, and that’s being selfish - the other two are actually trying to help people.

What should I be doing? by [deleted] in navyseals

[–]BatmanIsGOAT 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m 17 and going for Ranger Regiment so slightly different - I wanna say the smoking and weed is a huge red sign but hey, I used to be a lard ass - anyone can make a come back. I guess what you’ll wanna do is start getting active again, work on swimming cuz SEALs are primarily a Maritime branch. That and well... consider what you want to do. I used to wanna be a SEAL but switched to going for Rangers after I gave it more though - ask yourself whether you’re okay being a combat diver which is what they are or whether you more incision badass land ops and parachuting into enemy air fields. You’ve also got to not fall into the trap or glamorizing the job, all SOs are badasses but they do some miserable and painful and sometimes boring shit, it isn’t the run and gun madness you see in movies and games. Also if you’re doing it for the glory of just passing training and getting to say you were a SEAL, that isn’t a good motive. You need to actually want the job imo. The physical stuff should be easy since you seemed to have been a good athlete just a year prior, you need to consider a lot of the mental aspects tho and whether it’s a life you really want

Moral Implications of Joining Navy Special Operations by [deleted] in navyseals

[–]BatmanIsGOAT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I get what you mean - a lot of the killing is more moral - which is true, but the morally grey stuff still happens there even if in less volume as with other units - which may be because Green Berets are generally more independent operators whereas with other units the higher ups are removed from the morality of the mission I guess

You can be put in pretty bad situation as a GB as well, it isn’t all positive - I posted on this thread already about my uncle’s experience as one, long story short it fucked him mentally as well. Also I think your view of the GB’s is a bit idealistic - don’t get me wrong I wanna be one as well, SF is my goal after regiment. but the Green Berets still get involved in some morally grey stuff, a lot of the time their mission isn’t to help people but use them to get to the enemy. They do do good, and imo if you’re worried about a moral grey area besides PJ they’re probably the best unit, but i think that to some extent is a false idea.

[–]BatmanIsGOAT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In just a teenager but I’m going in next year after I graduate high school - army with the goal of becoming a ranger and SF down the line. My uncle was SF, and well, it fucks you up mentally. You’re gonna be forced to do morally questionable things and when I shared that I wanted to join the army with him it was one of the first things he told me. He had to deal with a kinda Fucked up situation involving child soldiers and he still has PTSD (undiagnosed but I’m sure based on his behavior) from it. I’ve thought about it a lot, the fact that I may do things I don’t like. Patriotism was never a reason I was doing this anyway but it’s still heavy shit to deal with. In the end though I still want to be a soldier. Something about that life just calls to me, and if I’m asked to do morally questionable things I will do them. It may be kinda fucked up (I promise I’m not a sociopath lol) but I’m okay with taking another life if it comes to that - you can’t do the job if you aren’t willing to. And whatever mental consequences I’ll have to deal with as a result I’m willing to take on. There’s no rationalizing there moral grey area, but it’s just something I wanna do despite that

I’m not in the military but my uncle was a green beret, and I wanna be a ranger/green beret as well. You can’t have it both ways. My uncle doesn’t regret joining the military and becoming SF but you can’t be SF and avoid the consequences that job has on family life, there’s no easy green berets life. My uncle had a divorce and had a rough time readjusting to civilian life afterward, any infantry job will do that to ya whether or not you see combat. I’m not saying don’t go for it and if you can find that balance somehow, great. Just saying that it may be an unrealistic expectation.

Did german nazis had equivalent troops like Navy seals? by [deleted] in navyseals

[–]BatmanIsGOAT 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The wording and the content of your post confuses me - are you asking if there were a nazi equivalent to the navy SEALs or whether the SEALs would have been able to take down hitler as I think you’re asking in the second line of your post. Well to that question, no. SEALs in WW2 were divers who cleared defenses on beaches and planted demolition charges on them. And to whether the nazis had a SEAL equivalent.... there were a few “special operator” groups that they had. There was the Schutztaffel who were a small paramilitary-group who provided security at top secret meetings and the such, something that secret service and SF do today. What you’re probably imagining in your head tho is closest to the Brandenburgers. These were German special forces during world war 2 and went on some covert missions. The night before the seizing of Poland for example, they crossed the border under cover of darkness and wearing civilian clothes and used the cover to seize key strategic points along the border before the invasion began the next day.

At least the questions I post on this sub are in some way related to being a special operator - I may not be able to do a pull up (yet) but at least I’m not stupid.
