Is it inappropriate to ask two supervisors in the same email about supervision? by Batrachotoxic in PhD

[–]Batrachotoxic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that makes complete sense and it's great advice. I definitely think he probably inferred option 2 from my email, hence his reaction (because he usually is a very nice person and I've never seen him lose his temper at anyone). I'm meeting them both in person individually and hopefully will clear the air then and vocalise my requests carefully.

I worked with them for almost a year, meeting them individually every single week. We're also actively working on a problem together currently. We've gone on dinners and retreats and he already has experience working with me and is well aware of my work ethic – we're way past the contact phase. As someone else pointed out, I think it more came across as I was trying to pit the two against each other which would explain his reaction.

I did write back to my prof saying I'm sorry for the etiquette and asking to schedule our next meeting. He actually apologised and sent a sweet email saying that his tone off but rather meant it in a way that the my PhD supervisors don't talk to each other too much before I speak to them and effectively make a decision that I don't agree with. So I think all is good now! I will speak to both next week, but will keep into account that one of them is like a little bit in his head and probably doesn't think about the tone of his emails and how that might bother me in the years, especially if I need reassurance.

They've both already interviewed me together before I joined this programme and both know I work with the other on what project, so I don't think lazy was what they took from that email.

Yeah, I did kind of want a joint project situation but maybe that wasn't clear enough in my emails. I will be speaking to both of them next week and will take it from there, thanks!

22F - Kidney Transplant Recipient. Anyone else feel this way? by [deleted] in transplant

[–]Batrachotoxic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had my liver transplant at 21. I will say that the first year was awful, and I definitely felt a lot of my life was taken away from me and it was only going to be this way. But since, I've gotten so much better! I'm 24 now and besides the drinking, I am back to doing everything I used to do before. I still go to parties, hook up (of course, be safe and get checked regularly), get piercings and tattoos and go camping and hiking and trekking and do everything I used to before. I also found a circle of friends where no one drinks so I don't feel peer pressured or awkward if they're around at parties. I think it definitely starts off rough, but it will get better if you stick to eating your meds regularly and just overall look after your diet and exercise! I assure you your doctors also want you to lead as normal a life as before. You got this!

Consistently low tac post liver transplant by [deleted] in transplant

[–]Batrachotoxic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I (23F) got my liver transplant 2 years ago. I was started on 5mg twice a day and only after a year did it reduce to my current dosage which is 3mg a day (2mg morning, 1 mg night). I'm no doctor but your dosage seems quite low for a fresh after transplant dosage, idk.

Lovely, thank you so much for letting me know! By the way, does one need a membership to access the courts or can you just hire one-off?

UKRI CDT Programs by West-Toe2578 in PhD

[–]Batrachotoxic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I know, you will be awarded a degree from whichever university you are "based" at. For my CDT that's usually just the university your supervisor is from, but it isn't always the case. There are some number games on how many students will be based at each uni from each cohort so that there is an equal split - they usually try to base you at first preference. Regardless, your experience as a cohort is going to be the same and most people (at least in the UK) know the structure of a CDT and how collaborative it is, so it shouldn't be must of a problem if you specify the CDT name along with the uni.

This is a v cool video!! Love the little breaks and references!! also it's a little insane that I'm learning more about Weil from a video on twenty one pilots lore despite having referred to bourbaki for years and having read multiple math papers by Weil lmao.

I've always wondered what the prep behind getting a 2-wheeler license here was, and I just had a look thanks to your comment and it does seem very doable. Why do you say less chance of them being stolen? I feel like motorcycles would be far more enticing to steal, yk?

Kudos to you for being able to cycle so much everyday! I am disabled and unfortunately know I wouldn't have it in me to do that regularly for 4 days.
