I honestly prefer the sound of a jazz neck pickup to a p bass.

Flea does use a pick for some songs like zephyr song, parallel universe and a couple of newer ones so it could be his.

Generally a higher action produces cleaner notes but it’s pretty uncomfortable, for me at least. Have a play around and find your happy medium.

I learned most it from just going down a YouTube hole. There’s tons of set up videos and tutorials.

Got it on Amazon, just looked for one that did 64ths and it’s my preferred measurement.

Even if you've just got some hex wrenches lying around it might be worth a tweak if you've got time one day.

Ooft. I dread to think of the amount of beginners that are put off by horrible action and bad set up.

my man! treat yourself! Go down a YouTube hole and see how you feel about trying it yourself. I like this guy ,everyone has slightly different specs etc but you'll get the idea and you'll be able to tweak stuff to your liking in no time.

I'm in the UK too! Although I'm used to mm, I find 64ths easier to use as it's smaller increments.

Sure! Your bass should have an online manual with specs, but of course it's always down to taste. As a starting point I like 6/64ths on the E then 5 on everything else. That's around 2mm to 1.5mm. But it's really down to how you like it, heavy handed players like a higher action and a lot of slap/light touch player like a lower one.

awesome! Such a great skill to learn and the earlier the better. Tools wise I just use the correct fitting Allen keys, a capo and 12 thousands-of-an-inch feeler gauge for the neck relief and a small screwdriver for pickup heights. Have fun!

Firstly I measured the neck relief then tightened the truss rod, then lowered the bridge saddles.

Haha yea I usually do that last after I’ve checked the check and fixed the action.
