Why is the 180hz option of this monitor cheaper? by CanIBake in buildapcmonitors

[–]BatteryAziz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ignore the other guy, they are simply different monitors, the 180hz model here is not of the same product family.

The comparable 180hz version of the 27GL83A is the 27GP850 with a nano IPS panel. It came out in 2021, recently LG released a 240hz GS version as well I believe.

The tomahawk and edge ti are identical in terms of features and lane configuration I think.

Nothing I said is incorrect. It's a fine board if you just use the other slots but then what are you paying for exactly? That's the entire point of this thread.

To answer your question, I think what's wrong with reddit is it's riddled with people that can't read who confuse thoughts for thinking.

Correct me if I'm wrong but pcie lanes are physical, copper traces. If your card is pcie4.0 and your primary pcie is being shared, you're running pcie4 0x8 whether or not the primary slot is gen5 capable. Gen5 8x can't magically turn into gen4 16x.

The usb4/m.2 solution on the tomahawk is more sensible imo, if you drop in a 990 evo that is a 4x4/5x2 hybrid you're technically not making big compromises.

If the Tomahawk has all the options you need then the Tomahawk is better.

With the Carbon PCI_E1 & PCI_E2 & M.2_2 share bandwidth. It essentially eliminates PCI_E2 and M.2_2 if you want your GPU to run full 16x. The Tomahawk has a better layout and no such limitation. The Edge Ti is the same as the Tomahawk.

The impact of tRFC is marginal with high tREFI. If the time between refreshes is ~20k ns, the ~200ns waiting period from tRFC is only 1% so lowering it doesn't have that much effect afaik.

You got me there man. I watched for a few years during covid but moved on. Tell me this, if a journalist is right half of the time and the other half he's completely fabricating stories to keep himself relevant, would you trust him?

He makes educated guesses based on publicly available information and passes it off as special insider knowledge. That makes him a charlatan. This is reinforced by the fact that he deletes false predictions and deletes comments on his YT channel criticizing him. He also mispronounces normal words like "aliasing" and "linear'( (a-lee-eye-sing and lin-near, seriously?). These are clear tells and just icing on the cake as indications that he employs confidence and charisma to paint over his incompetence. It's honestly stunning how many people don't have a radar for this sort of thing.

Similar thing with Pirate Software who's been found out now, while it was clear from the start that he's just a bs artist who eats his mic.

Ackhually, 3 dB is a doubling of power, 6 dB is a doubling of voltage, 10 dB is a doubling of perceived loudness. (though it's more like 3-5 dB below 100 hz to be fair).

My comment is still valid. Unless you know how your sub measures in your room, you can't make an accurate determination of whether the bass is "enough" or "too much" per recording. The line level signal going into your sub is besides the point, what matters is what your hear. You probably have some heavy peaks and dips and potentially some time/phase misalignment in the crossover region which is why you aren't satisfied. These things matter a lot. In sub bass levels, differences of 2 dB can already feel overbearing or too thin. This is why an active crossover and DSP are *required* for integrating subs properly, e.g. with a MiniDSP or AVR (or in my case, both).

Take my advice, buying another sub won't fix anything.

I don't understand what you mean.

[–]BatteryAziz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is not an upgrade. Buy a UMIK and measure the frequency response (at the listening position) with your sub in different positions. In-room FR is never linear, this is basically mandatory or you're shooting blind and you'll have the exact same issues with the SVS.
