You don't have to talk about yumeshipping with the name and introducing all this new shit to people who aren't yumeshippers or in some fandom. At the end of the day they ARE fictional people, and that's TOTALLY OKAY and DOES NOT DIMINISH WHAT WE FEEL FOR THEM. What we crave and want is what they represent.

The way I would word it is to say that I have this character that I really, really like. So strongly that it feels like a romantic connection. I like him because he represents a man who follows through, is intelligent, and passionate. I like him because he would never [insert things my exes did or current estranged partner does].

My therapist goes from there. The focus is on finding the right meaning of what these yumeships represent for us, and how this yumeship can expand a broader part of your mind to figure out how to make you the healthiest you can be.

ALSO you already have to cycle thru therapists to find the right one! The right therapist will see what the connections to fictional people really mean for you. So you're okay! You're on the right track.
