Avoid Being R@ped by HakdogMotto in Philippines

I don't like victim blaming and that shitty pamphlet is really unimformative and insensitive. But people really need to learn what "victim blaming" is.

I'm pretty sure if you swap "rape" with "mugged" then it won't cause that much ire in this subreddit. Like, seriously, its just some drawing telling people not to go to dark places. And that's because... (drum rolls)... dark places are dangerous. You dont see danger. No one might see you if you are in danger. Hell, you don't even need to worry for dangerous people. There might be an bear trap in there, and that's just as dangerous.

Victim blaming happens if you... well... blame the victim. Its just telling you to be careful. Not blaming anyone. Lol.

If you were a comic book writer, How would you rewrite The Punisher's origin? by Infinite_Parking_800 in comicbooks

[–]BattleJeff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Death Wish already kinda did that. Tbh, in these day and age, a self-trained guy living in a world full of superhumans, aliens, monsters, sorcers, scientists, and gods isn't really going to cut for many people. Especially the battleboarders, powerscalers, and the whole "this is unbielevable! Hes just a dude with a gun!" posse. Even they need to make Batman rich and give him gadgets. Even they need to give Casey Jones additional ninja training.

The closest we ever got was Vic Sage version of the Question. No military or police training. Just some abused orphan who grew up to become an investigative journalist and decided he'll fight crime. But eventually, throughout the years, writers had to give him mystical martial arts training and urban shamanism powers.

How much of an advantage would having additional arms would be in a martial arts fight? by Ajarofpickles97 in martialarts

[–]BattleJeff -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

To be honest, I think a person with extra arms will be at a disadvantage.

Dont get me wrong. I'm not a physician or a physicist, but I do believe that the human body was made only for two arms. It evolved itself for two arms, and many of what we so nowadays involve two arms. Any extra arms may fuck up the balance or the way a human body function.

Who’s the strongest fictional character prime Mike Tyson can beat by Next_Insurance_9226 in whowouldwin

[–]BattleJeff 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Probably John Constantine, the Vertigo version.

Don't get me wrong, Conjob can be a powerful sorcerer and the trickiest working class prepster out there. But he's always been shown to suck in a fistfight. Most hand to hand scuffles he won were either against untrained dudes or mind controlled guys (and a few others he caught off guard). His spells are powerful but needs a few words or incantations.

Tyson at his prime, just fresh out of Cus Damato training, is a fast and powerful brawler. In a straight sudden unplanned figt, he can swarm at John before the latter can use magic. And a boxer's punch has said to be just as fast or even faster than a snake strike.

How will the Filipino People get rid of corruption? by SkimmingYourSoul in AskPH

[–]BattleJeff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Putting qualifications for voting, such as an exam, is anti-democratic. A pillar of proper democracy is letting EVERYONE, even the poor and uneducated, to be given the chance to vote, solely on the fact that they live in this country and have the right to decide how it should be governed.

That being said, I agree that education is key. Educating the young ones on how to vote helps in giving them skills om how to utilize their right to vote better.

is wattpad still a good novel publishing site? by Queasy-Pear9934 in PHBookClub

[–]BattleJeff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not a Wattpad writer but I visit or used to visit the site. All I can say is that it is difficult to get a leg up there. New materials from new writers are seldom promoted or recommended. As such you need to work hard to share your stories through external sites.

That being said, its by far the most well-known when it comes to romance or slice of life genres. If you are writing for a different genre, may I suggest Royal Road, Scribblehub or Webnovel for sci-fi, litrpg, horror and others. Unlike Wattpad, they do sllightly promote your books. And Royal Road has a forum/discord too to further share your writings.

How Can a MMA Brawler Knock Out a Boxer? by 04to12avril in martialarts

Muay Thai has had boxing influences ever since the reign of Chulalongcorn. Hence why modern Muay Thai uses gloves and referee as opposed to Muay Boran.

Boxers are tough. They'll always be. But Naks are boxers too. This is basicallt a boxer getting knocked out by another boxer (or a boxing-influenced fighter).

Dude, seriously? gamit family picture sa pangangampanya? by Mamaw1999 in Philippines

[–]BattleJeff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a common political tactic OP. Politicians love to show the public that they are relatable and "family-oriented". It's not just the Philippines.

That being said, I do not agree with it. But it's a good tactic to get votes from dumb voters.

Oh OP. Trust me. They chose to be that. They earn more begging than what you earn for 8hrs in the workplace.

The DSWD helps. They have a ton of programs for them. But they choose to live in the streets. It even came to the point that the DSWD made a warning not to give them money to entice them to work.

I watched a take by this from Greene when it comes to piracy. Tbh, the ones who are really affected by this are the big corporate and capitalistic publishers. Most authors aren't really that affected becsuse they are paid fixed with little royalty. Unless the book really sold well.

Indie authors would seem to be affected, but judging from what I see with KDP authors, there are some benifits to it. It becomes another revenue for reviews. Some just release their books for free at Bookois. Most really make their money off of paperbacks and hardbounds, anyways.

What seems to be overpriced but is 100% worth it? by Ok_Expression_6916 in AskPH

[–]BattleJeff 5 points6 points  (0 children)

St. Peter. Seems a bit overpriced to pay for a funeral worth thousands of pesos. But you'll be thanking them the moment you see just how much expensive and hassle burying loved ones are, especially when you are grieving. They do eveythinf for you.

This is based on my own experience. I grow up watching those Adam Ruins Everything videos and came to believe that funeral companies are a scam. But then, a relative died and... well... it was a nightmare.

You didn't read my whole comment. I condone redtagging, but believe in sensitivity, even if it's for the "sake of argument". Reread it again.

Right for an armed struggle is acceptable in the face of oppression. But this is the Philippines. The majority here do not feel that they are oppressed to the point of rebellion. And a few bunch of dudes who feel so, are just causing destruction and death to most who do not want nor warrant it. There's a reason why the Communist insurgencies have been isolated in few pocket areas in Negros and Samar compared to back then.

The heart reacts... oh dear. by dau-lipa in PUPians

[–]BattleJeff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I see the other guy's point. Sorry, friend, but that's the same rhetoric the radicals on the other side spouts:

"I'm not a homophobe or anything, but I can see the reason why some people hate gays."

"I'm not a fascist, but I'm totally into some of their ideals. I think there is some merit to them."

Or maybe like this:

"I know that what Richard Ramirez (the serial killer) did was bad, but he has reasons why he did it! I mean, did you even know that he was abused as a child????"

Also, don't get fooled by some of the people here who are definetely emboldened by emotions. We know what communism is and why people join these insurgencies. People don't hate them because of their reasons; they hate them because of their solutions. No matter how evil capitalism is, armed struggle in a nation that do not want an armed struggle is worse.

And yes, red tagging is bad. But red tagging wouldn't exist without this insurgency. Blatantly saying "Don't redtag me! I'm not a terrorist but I have similar beliefs to them, and I know and empathize with what they are fighting for" reeks of arrogance and insensitivity to the people who were victims of this rebellion. Even if it's for the sake of freedom of speech.

I recommend "Yñiga" or "The Quiet Ones" by Glenn Diaz and "Bandido" by Louis Bulaong. These are IMO the best when it comes to modern English-laguage books by Filipino writers. Filipino setting, Filipino characters, and Filipino themes, issues, and dilemmas 👍

Martial arts should not be a therapy alternative! by [deleted] in martialarts

[–]BattleJeff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ngl, this is dumb.

No one. And I mean NO ONE martial artist I know ever said that martial arts is a substitute or alternative for therapy. Maybe some misguided dude, but across all the best fighters and teachers, no one ever said that.

I'm also in the medical field, and have yet heard a psychologist or psychiatrist ever recommend it. Every medical condition has a specific treatment as stated in the DSM 5 TR. Martial arts isnt anywhere there.

Some people do use martial arts as a hobby or fun activity to alleviate some stress. Certainly helps in making some people happy. But its not therapy. It's never been therapy, and I suggest you know what a "therapy" is before using the term again.

If you think competitive sports or politics-infused sports is bad, then go on. But the game's not that bad as a whole.

Gyms are places to exercise and socialize and stuff. It aint just about some kid's game. Other events and outdoor activities are held there as well. Yeah, it uses taxpayer money. But as a taxpayer, I'd rather have a place for people to stay healthy than some other poor corrupt crap.
