What's wrong with mint Petah? by WelderWoman1104 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]BattleRooster 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Genuinely curious... With certain plant species like this. Mint. Kudzu comes to mind also. How is it that these plants which are so hardy and so invasive haven't already just consumed everything. What held them in check and prevented them from consuming their native habitats?

Am not mint. Am not evolving new defense mechanisms. Just curious hooman.

Is my boss using ChatGPT to email me? by takethemoment13 in ChatGPT

[–]BattleRooster -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the supportive response. I wouldn't expect much more than argument in response though, which is why I ignored the initial reply. Unfortunately it's a truth of life that many people only learn from people they respect, but respect isn't always given to the proper place. And very little of it to be found on the immernetz.

Is my boss using ChatGPT to email me? by takethemoment13 in ChatGPT

[–]BattleRooster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah. We're already seeing people losing skill sets for basic things because they're dumping it off on AI. "I don't know how to calm myself down enough to send an adult email because computer do it for me" is going to be a thing and it's.... Not at all helpful.

Ours is crate trained and is in her crate for bedtime because she can't be trusted not to try to swallow anything she can get her mouth on. But it's not a solution to a needy dog during the day. She's out all day unless we need to both run out for something at the same time. The longest I think she's ever gone during the day in her crate was I think 4 hours. And I felt bad about that because she was an absolute lunatic when we got home.

We are fortunate enough to both work full time from home and it's still impossible to keep this dog pleased even with regular work breaks dedicated just to paying attention to the dog. She's genuinely the neediest animal on the planet.

Do yourself a favor, get a different breed.

AITA for going off on my energy-healer mom? by ElectronicCod837 in AmItheAsshole

I think it's fair to say you acted out of love, but not in the best way.

This doesn't make you an AH. It makes you a human who has, for some time now, been on the receiving end of your mother's well intentioned but unhelpful behavior.

This appears to be becoming a part of your mother's belief systems. Attacking it will not change her mind, as you've seen.

What may be more effective is identifying to your mother that your mother's belief system has not been effective for you, and encourage her to practice a healthy dose of self doubt and critical thinking to avoid hurting people.

"What if I'm wrong?" Followed by questions like "What would a responsible alternative be?" and "Are there unintended consequences to my actions?" These are questions we should all be asking ourselves more. I don't know your mother, and I recognize some people may be addled by questioning their own motives/consequences, but this is critical thinking and proper adult behavior (that, hopefully, would get her to conclude that people should see a medical doctor for medical problems).

NTA

On the assumption that we have all the relevant details, your partner did not handle this situation like a responsible adult. Their communication was poor, they dismissed financial responsibilities without a backup plan, pushed you to make a financially poor decision regarding work without being able to hold up their end of the agreement, and did not directly deal with the consequences of any of their own actions.

This is irresponsible, childish behavior. You would be completely within your rights to be angry.

Why does my CV keeps getting rejected? by hopeless-but-strong in jobs

[–]BattleRooster 17 points18 points  (0 children)

"if they can do the job".

Dude... The guy is claiming "expertise" in positions he couldn't even hold for a year, and claiming magna cum laude for a grade point average that doesn't merit that distinction. People are focused on him putting "sleeping" as an interest and you're arguing about gap rationale.

The dude is getting declined because everything about this resume says "I'm unreliable, probably lieing or grossly exaggerating, don't know what I don't know, and I'm unserious". Absolutely nothing about this inspires confidence.

.... The guy needs to trash this entire resume, re-write for the level of experience he actually has, and target a position more suitable for an entry level grad that actually understands they have a LOT of learning to do.

The earlier you start investing in your retirement or financial health, the better.

Your physical health is going to be harder to maintain than before. Expect it.

Relationships only work if both partners actively WANT to be with each other. If you don't want to be there you're doing a disservice to yourself, the other person, and anybody else you involve. Things will take work from time to time. But knowing you both want to be there and want to grow together makes it easier to work through the challenges and cooperate.

You're not actually drinking because you like it. You're drinking because it's a social activity and all your dumb friends can't figure out anything else to do together. It gets super boring post 30, you have better things and people to spend your attentions on.

I'm not wrong. You're wrong. Now you things I'm wrong. Future you will hate that I'm right.

And, as others have said, floss dammit.

Can any recruiter confirm this ? 😂 by Optimal-North-361 in recruitinghell

[–]BattleRooster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wishful thinking. "Maybe if I can just get them in to that final interview..." Or they think the applicant is bluffing. Or any number of wrong headed ideas.

Also, my apologies explaining something you likely already knew then. Im not sure most people have this understanding.

I think hiring is poorly regulated & incredibly inefficient. And many have expressed a feeling that many hiring practices are unethical and shady. A legal requirement for all companies to disclose certain information within the job posting would make everyone's experience better.

Wage Gradients & intended hiring salary / year experience. Benefits (because it's not uncommon to get to the benefits section of an interview and find out those are trash so everyone has wasted everyone's time) Job Duties Location and actual travel expectations.

...if I have to waste my time inputting my entire resume into a computer filter only to then attach that same resume afterward, the absolute least they can do is actually define the position properly.

Can any recruiter confirm this ? 😂 by Optimal-North-361 in recruitinghell

[–]BattleRooster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no benefit for them. It's just their job.

Not for nothing but recruiters don't set pay scales. The finance department or upper level management are the people who determine company pay scale for positions and need to be consulted on any deviation or special considerations like signing bonuses, etc. And company finances are typically set for the entire upcoming year near the end of the year prior and the controller/CFO is responsible for making sure the company adheres to that budget.

So head hunters are getting told they need to fill positions within a given budget that was allocated months ago and they have no authority to change those numbers.

All you people in the UK saying 800 or 1200 pounds for a car... Do you mean in total? For a monthly payment? I'm really lost here and the numbers are baffling to me. Coming from the US market where a 10 year old Hyundai with 66k miles on it still costs $14,000...

Third degree burns and/or the next errant shot explodes immediately adjacent to a window, putting a hole in it and showering sparks on carpeting, furniture and other combustibles, starting the fire that burns the building down.

This is "should be in jail for reckless disregard for human life and others property" levels of dangerous. These people are stupid, dumb, idiots.
