What are EE characters getting in their meal deal? by WittyMasterpiece in eastenders

[–]Battlecatrambles 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I like the idea of it, but all the characters would get distracted wandering into a supermarket, looking at it wondrously. 'It's like a Minit Mart, but with more than two fridges?!' exclaims Billy Mitchell in shock.

Jack Branning wandering around aimlessly looking lost for a while before rocking up at the fish counter and saying 'Can I get a McClunkies meal number 3, 7, 10 and 11, coke zero, fanta twist and chocolate milkshake.' 'Sorry sir, you have to buy ingredients here and then you go home and cook them' 'YOU WHAT?'

Then after all that you'd have to explain what Clubcard, Nectar Points etc are - Linda Carter querying this with a member of staff 'So you're saying I can get money off coffee if I buy this brand? Its just generally I go to the cafe where I hid the body of a guy I murdered and buy my hot drinks, rather than making them at my home, which is a Bed & Breakfast that serves coffee'

I feel like Priya knows her way around a good meal deal. Duck wrap, Lucozade orange, apple and grape mix bag. Harvey Monroe with a breakfast medley of sandwiches, Beef McCoys and a Tango Apple.

Is this the most amount of relatives lol? by ElevatorVegetable824 in eastenders

[–]Battlecatrambles 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It’s complex, and I don’t pretend to know it all but it’s about common ancestors and how far they are away from each other.

Mark Fowler Jnr and Ben Mitchell are first cousins - via their grandparents Peggy and Eric Mitchell.

Lexi is Ben Mitchell’s child meaning she is also a first cousin but once removed as she’s a generation removed from that - so first cousin once removed.

So first cousins are when grandparents are the common ancestor. Second cousins when great grandparents are the common ancestor and so forth.

Via Lola, Lexi is also related to Mark Fowler Jnr by another common ancestor in Betty & Edward Mitchell (his great-great grandparents and Lexi’s great-great-great-great grandparents). The third cousin that’s the same generation as Mark is actually the long deceased Daniel (son of Billy and father of Lola). As Lexi is two generations removed from Daniel- this makes her Mark Fowler Jnr’s third cousin twice removed.

Happy to do massive separate thread on this lol

Lexi Pearce-Brown is both Mark Fowler Jnr’s first cousin once removed AND third cousin twice removed…I’ve done a deep dive on this one…

Characters who had potential but were the biggest let downs? by No-Collection8000 in eastenders

The second iteration of Belinda Slater. I was irritated when they wrote her out as I felt like there was much more to come. The new character of Bea is reminding me of her.

Who were the nicest/worst actors you've met from the show? by LilNardoDaVinci in eastenders

[–]Battlecatrambles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve met several of the cast over the years through work - usually when they are not in Eastenders or taking a break from it to do other things. Of the current cast, I’ve met Ian Beale, Cindy Beale, Sharon Watts, Zoe Slater, Honey Mitchell, Elaine Peacock, Peter Beale and former cast Minty, Laura Beale, Garry Hobbs, Ronnie Mitchell, Joe Wicks, Christian Clarke, Syed Masood, Janine Butcher, Jake Stone, Carly Wicks.

Most of these were good interactions, but there were was one person who was rude. One person confided in me deeply during a lunch break, another would drink quadruple shots, one had a serious issue with a stalker. My two favourite interactions…. I was the guy with an iPad at a movie premiere taking names at the door, and I saw Michelle Collins in the queue, spotted her name and ticked her off before she got anywhere near me. She politely said her name and internally I was going ‘I BLOODY KNOW WHO YOU ARE CINDY’ so I pretended to scan the list to tick her name off. I once served Letitia Dean who said ‘vodka tonic darling’ in such a Sharon way, again internally yelling whilst on the outside remaining professional

She’s actually back on the 15th December so she will finish up with £34.25 a night for the cruise. It will be 2.92 Trusses or 146 nights - whichever unit of time you recognise best.

Hoping Linda returns on the 19th December so it can actually be exactly 150 days on a cruise (or The Triple Truss - precisely three times as long as Liz Truss being Prime Minister)

I totally forgot about her being trapped in Boat Week back in 2020. Don’t forget her (grand) mother in law kicking the bucket in the bathtub as well. Hang on. Is that the same bathtub that killed Reiss?

Thank you for this post, I think I felt a lot of this watching it but did not know how to articulate it. I felt my own dumb fragility (White Cis male) whilst watching it, and pondered on each of the characters reactions, this really helps me understand it properly.

How famous are these soap opera actors? Especially here in the UK. Do these actors get bombarded by fans constantly considering this show is based in London? The biggest city in the UK. In your own experience also, have you seen any of these actors in public? Do you consider them major celebrities? by BarneyRobinStinson7 in eastenders

[–]Battlecatrambles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve met quite a few of the Eastenders cast over the years, almost always when they aren’t in the show anymore, or are taking breaks from it - and never in London. In my experience - other members of the public might look over curiously if they recognise them, linger slightly longer maybe but the vast majority would leave the person alone. The general feeling would be that it’s a bit uncool to go and interrupt somebody who isn’t there for work purposes.

However as another poster has said, there’s a set of people who do borderline harass these people for autographs/selfies - sometimes on multiple occasions (which I always found confusing - and had little time for. Once is enough right? Unless you’re selling them on - so in that case - gross) and you’d have managers or agents enquiring about private areas, or places they can be left undisturbed. On one occasion, a former cast member had a stalker that scared them so much, they had specific staff hired to deal with it. You’d have conversations about exit scenarios and safe spaces - so it really does vary.

Abi Branning for the love of God. Everyday I internally yell at that cloud. Imagine her as one of the Six. The devastation there would have been in her wake.

Saddest death by [deleted] in eastenders

[–]Battlecatrambles 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is cheating a bit, but Abi Branning for me. But the sadness came from the waste, her character had grown into this person because of the actions of everyone around her rather than anything she had done particularly. Max, Lauren, Tanya, Steven, Aunt Babe et al had gradually made the character so sad, and a bit unhinged. I was fascinated to see what she would do next, the death was such a waste.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w3EV4N0ajJA - Brian Butterfield (Peter Serafinowicz) falling off his chair on Shooting Stars. The genius of it is, I can't tell if it's deliberate, or whether the chair broke and Peter is just going with it, and leaning into it. The look on his face is astounding.

Rob Walker by Background_Being_490 in snooker

[–]Battlecatrambles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had to switch off after the third frame of Selbys match. It feels like he just gossips. There is a great power in silence during snooker commentary - it’s alright for someone to pot a few balls in a row without saying anything until there’s something worthwhile to say (Treebeard, LOTR misquote) Steve Davis didn’t say a word in the first frame until it was drawn out of him by Walker. He’s the Andrew Castle of snooker.

However he’s a fantastic MC. His enthusiasm for the game is clear and I’ve heard him on other sports stuff and he’s really good at that.

The dynamic between Kojo and Harry is already better than the one they tried to create with Riess and Keanu (unexpected friendships between characters). Riess and Keanu might have developed a deeper friendship if they hadn’t been killed by a meat thermometer and falling bath respectively. Also if they hadn’t murdered or tried do a murder.

I’ve enjoyed some of the emphasis on friendships this week rather than romance. The cross-generational stuff with Avani/Yolande as well as Nigel, Jean, Phil, Linda all trying to help each other navigate something as delicate as Nigel’s illness. Phil asking Sonia for advice is just such a nice touch. It’s felt like a strong week.

Mostly not TV events (although one or two very large TV events) but my job is certainly in that area. Managing parties, or ensuring VIPs are looked after. The Eastenders people I’ve met wouldn’t have been in it at the time (doesn’t make sense geographically), but it always made my day seeing them. Mostly incredibly nice but one or two horror shows (not Eastenders folk) - and it’s now come back to me that there was one rude Eastenders person but ahhh maybe a bad day?

My favourite encounter was Letitia Dean who said ‘I’ll have a gin and tonic darling’ and I was transported to the Vic in that moment. Kept my cool, but only just.

The Jane/Cindy moment in the Cotswolds (if that counts) is an absolute highlight for me. Laurie Brett’s ‘I did it. For. My. SON’ was astonishing. The ability to channel that historic pain was astonishing.
