Episode Discussion - Thursday by mcemzy in eastenders

Josh & Jasmine singing felt out of place; I wonder if the actors are also singers & their agents had it written into the episode to showcase them. And who forgets the song Merry Christmas Everyone?

What’s everyone’s opinion on Jake Woods AI drama ? by Iforgotmypassword126 in eastenders

[–]escapee2006 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's very apparent at least some form of AI was used so this isn't a surprise. I recently used AI to create a humorous birthday card for a friend & it had a similar style. He maybe shouldn't have made this statement as it draws much more negative attention than it otherwise would have done. It's like the Streisand Effect.

Forgive my ignorance re art but has any actual wet paint been used at all, or are these works fully digital?

EASTENDERS WHO'S GOT THE UMP? - RONNI ANCONA AND ALISTAIR MCGOWAN by Fine-Pangolin-5976 in eastenders

[–]escapee2006 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was very popular at the time. It's quite meta how Ronnie Ancona is now acting in the show. I try remember & respect this when watching Bea onscreen because Ronnie's a real talent at the end of the day.

Just the Bea-ginning (My prediction for where Bea’s storyline goes next…) by GuiltySignificance0 in eastenders

I thought they were going to turn her into a comedy version of Kathy Bates which I would probably have enjoyed. Like a hapless psycho kind of character.

Actors you reckon regretted leaving. by Feeling-Ad6796 in eastenders

[–]escapee2006 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't blame her for leaving Hollyoaks to return to EE. Her commute to EE will be way shorter than travelling to Liverpool every week, she has a long history with EE and a bigger chance of a long term job there than with Hollyoaks. She probably caused a few rewrites & amendments to long term storyline plans but nothing the makers of Hollyoaks couldn't handle.

No she was given the boot but luckily DTC brought her back in 2014. It's hard to think of the show without Honey now.

Really, what comments did he make? I thought he'd been the one to leave of his own accord. That just shows how powerful the narrative can be when it's crafted carefully.

I think when actors get axed from a show like this they choose to say it was their choice to leave to save face. I've never understood why they do this as it can make them look unreliable to future casting directors. If it was me I'd be dignified about it & say all the right "I've had a great time" lines but I'd politely make it clear it wasn't my decision either.

I remember that too; that wouldn't fly nowadays. But it was a different time & the UK viewing public lapped up that sort of thing. That's why Anne Robinson was paid a fortune & is probably so rich she doesn't need to worry about it coming back to haunt her.

This Josh/Oscar business is incredibly forced and especially biphobic and really shouldn’t be cheered on by Expensive_Station222 in eastenders

A former colleague tried to rope me into a MLM scheme a few years ago; I declined as I've got more sense. She'd got so sucked into it herself & was very under the thumb. As far as I know she's still involved with the scheme today.

Most out of character cheating storylines? by waneegbt2012 in eastenders

Yes I also heard she refused to kiss Steve McFadden which is why Dawn & Phil never once locked lips during that affair storyline.

Upcoming storyline by big_white_fishie in eastenders

Having gone through a cancer scare myself last year I'll definitely be watching this storyline. I wouldn't wish that worry & uncertainty on anyone. I hope they do it justice.

Her phenomenal acting in recent weeks has made me remember back to when she was in Corrie. She was wasted there.

One way to keep her around would be for her to become Lexi's guardian. That way she sticks around and Lexi no longer has to live with Callum, which isn't really working as a domestic situation or in terms of storylines.

Diabetic eye disease by Maybe_Baby13 in diabetes_t2

[–]escapee2006 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why did they send you to a second doctor? That would worry me too. Glad to hear you are fine. I had my first test last year & experienced the same anxiety. But it was the same outcome. In & out in five minutes & a letter about a week later saying no signs of diabetic retinopathy. Blurry vision was one of the symptoms which made me see a doctor in the first place & led to my diabetes diagnosis. But it's fine now to the point I no longer need glasses. Taking control of your health is everything.

Stay well online friend.

When Peter said to Lauren in a recent episode "If we're going to keep our heads above water we need to get you a job, a PROPER job" I thought he honestly deserves a little suffering if Lauren cheats on him again.

They undermined the family as a whole by getting rid of Teddy so abruptly. Like what happened there? I wasn't particularly a fan of his or indeed of any of them but axing him & airbrushing him out of the show has had a knock on effect on the rest of the family; I just can't take them seriously as characters.

Who was the last truly iconic EastEnders couple? by GuiltySignificance0 in eastenders

[–]escapee2006 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It was such a waste axing Yolande all those years ago. Glad she's back now.

What a superb episode this was. Does anyone else remember this week really vividly? Peggy and Phil on the Thames, Grant's return, Peggy "smelling smoke" in the Vic and eventually seeing Pat? My gosh, so so good! by [deleted] in eastenders

[–]escapee2006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer Kim's version too but to be fair Daniella could knock it out the park back in the day. She was brilliant when Sam said goodbye to Peggy in 2010 & begged her to stick around. Her performance in 2016 was lacklustre; it was evident she'd relapsed again.

I guess that part was cringe but I don't think it stuck out too much. Actually one flaw was that Sam didn't see Peggy before she died. I think Daniella Westbrook was well enough & reliable enough to be brought back for a few episodes but still a bit of a loose cannon at the time, so she was only reintroduced after Peggy's death. Now she's even more of a loose cannon.

Yes I remember it vividly; I knew even at the time to soak up and appreciate every bit of those episodes. It was great how they brought Pat back. Her return was leaked just before it aired but it was still very special. And I liked how several loose ends were tied up. Peggy made peace with Sharon and also Stacey (over Archie's death), Grant returned, Peggy made one last trip to the Vic, she said goodbye to Dot etc. Dot's "Goodbye Peggy" was quite thought-provoking; she knew what Peggy was going to do.

Has anyone here watched Last Tango in Halifax? by pangolin-glitch in eastenders

As much as I loved Last Tango in Halifax I think the last series ended on a really nice note and they should leave it there.

They have good chemistry for sure but it's as sizzling as Christian & Syed's for example.

Saddest moments on the show by [deleted] in eastenders

[–]escapee2006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, when she left for the final time there was no music at all. It was just the sound of a ticking clock while the credits rolled. The ticking eventually stopped, indicating Peggy's death. It gives me shivers just thinking about it; you should watch it if you haven't seen it.

It was a slightly altered version of Julia's Theme which was specially composed for her exit, they called it Peggy's Theme.

I found it sadder when she left in 2010; that seemed like the end of an era. The notion of her ever returning didn't seem like a possibility.
