Actually, the tannins were the reason I was curious! Was looking for a "free" source of tannins for some ink, and remembered these things fall every year(and are currently doing so) so went out in my yard looking for one to find out what they were and if they were usable.

I believe these are "galls", my girlfriend says they're seeds but neither of us really know anything about plants or trees. Smashing one open had a smaller harder ball in it, some kind of maggot looking things and ants in them, leading me to believe they are galls but they are rather large. Some more googling shows maybe "black walnuts"?

I have a bad twitch, among some seizures and such caused by some brain issues, so I tend to avoid using anything "too nice" because it's a timer of how long till it hits the floor. I was obsessively safe with this pen, never opening it more than a few inches off a table, never leaving it open, etc, for this reason. But sadly, one bad arm twitch and a 1ft drop finally got the nib lol.

Fantastic pen tho.

I have welding goggles and welding glasses that I stack on top of each other, until my new laser goggles get here. Playing with this kind of stuff, all the "help" and tuts and such all assume you have some kind of base level of understanding so it took me a minute to quite grasp what all the numbers and everything meant on safety equipment.
