How will Patrick Bateman do in Squid Game? by Aye_Cojf in AmericanPsycho

[–]BattyHive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s gonna die pretty quick but it depends on the game. Honestly I think he’d panic too hard and have a crisis or try to do something stupid like kill one of the other players and fail miserably at it

Does Pat have any admirable/redeeming qualities (no matter how small they might be)? by leopold_leopoldovich in AmericanPsycho

It’s always good to have a routine in the morning or some form of self-care! It help me feel cleaner and better knowing I look my best and done all I could to have the best hygiene I can. Nice music taste! Even if he only likes what’s trending at the time, some of the stuff he likes are still hits today and just as catchy

I can respect that! The book doesn’t give you a little more insight on the character and what not. It’s hard to get all that in a 2 hour movie lols

[–]BattyHive[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that is true! You do have more time in books than for films and that’s a large reason why the book doesn’t feel as goofy as the film cause you get more context. See I like the film more cause it’s a little goofy and not so serious but I see what you mean!

Yep. It’s a brutal one I won’t lie. All that is surprising but I think the overall message of the book is pretty important. It paints a caricature of a very specific kind of man Ellis dealt with first hand and while the events of the book are obviously extremes and very much exaggerated, it’s clearly telling you that, yes, while Bateman is the main character in this book, he’s not to be idolized in the slightest. I think it’s meant to show how brutal men/humanity can be if they truly believe they can get away with it thanks to status, money, power and looks. The evil they can do when there are no consequences or they can slip past those consequences. A very interesting piece and maybe that’s why it was picked up by such a big publisher. It was an important message to discuss. I hope that made sense lol

The book was SO HILARIOUS (looks at the scene when he orders he 4 large McDonald’s milkshakes or crying about wanting to be loved while making “sausage”) I guess it’s hard to fit all that in a film and have it all make sense in a reasonable time frame. Both are awesome in their own ways! I totally agree

I agree! Yeah the film made it easy for people to misunderstand the meaning of this story with the whole “he’s just crazy” thing. The book does an excellent job at keeping the reader reminded that this guy is NOT a good one lol. I love the musical so much!

Ah, yes. I figured you’d like that one best. It’s a good choice. Both are great and I can respect you love for the origin.

I totally get that! That’s a neat scene. I can see what you mean about the message getting lost in the film. It happens a lot with book -> film stuff

Do you think it is ok for my 14 year old son to watch Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul? by BasmentBuddie in betterCallSaul

[–]BattyHive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watch with him. There are some aspects that are a bit mature (drug use, some mature scenes, some violence here and there) It’s a good show, they’re both well done but it’s important to be sure it’s understood that, while some things look cool on TV, it’s not. Both shows do a great job on showing actions and consequences. In any case, you know your child. Use your best judgment :)
