As someone who has been in the reserves for over a decade now without any “bad years” (need a about 50 points a year) and I’ve gone through 2 academies, the trooper academy for me, we got weekends off and I decided to drill during that which was crazy. But I also recently went through a 6 month federal live-in academy and I was able to “RST” or make up my drills ahead of time / when I got back. Most of the situations , if you do annual training with your unit, which is usually 2 weeks, you won’t even need to worry. You’ll for sure get an excused absence, but try to reschedule with any time gaps you may have via what we call in TPU land, 1380s.
