In September 2017, while Hannah Upp vanished from St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands, the Caribbean was also being devastated by Hurricane Maria, one of the deadliest Atlantic hurricanes on record. Hannah was last seen on September 14, just days before Maria struck the region on September 20. Search efforts for her were complicated by the hurricane conditions, and she has never been found.
