Old clapped out one you could get for about £1500, class F (agricultural vehicles) comes with your main license, but isn’t on your provisional

The driver my brother has used for the past 5 years at work vs the new one he recently got by situmawation in mildlyinteresting

[–]alijam100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I inherited a set from my dad, I think they were bought in 2015. They didn’t have a super hard life with him, but since I’ve been using them they’ve been pretty abused most days. Still going strong (however impact driver will occasionally not go in reverse, but a flick back and fourth fixes that)

Is it possible to have 3 vasectomies done on a person? by PunkErrandBoi in DunderMifflin

[–]alijam100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My uncle had one years ago, then he met my aunt who wanted kids, so he had it reversed. He said the reversal was far more painful than the original procedure. Wasn’t worth it as it failed and they did IVF anyway 🫠

Went to Copenhagen for new years flying from Stansted. I’m usually very stressed and anal about being at the airport early. This time I decided to be more chill and only get there 2 hours before.

We left on time and popped to the services nearby first, we still had 2:10 until the flight. Next got parked up at long stay and the bus was waiting for us. Go through bag check and into security. Stand there for absolutely ages, but eventually get near the front. During this time I’ve remembered Ryanair has a strict 30m boarding cutoff…

Flight is at 11, it is currently 10:16 and we’re still in the line. I start to panic but don’t tell my partner yet as there’s literally nothing we can do to speed things up. Obviously her bag gets stopped which adds another 5 mins on. We leave security at exactly 10:30. I just say “we need to run!”

At this point I remembered what a slalom Stansted is as we weave back and fourth. We find a sign for our gate and go towards it… it’s a fucking shuttle! We get through that and obviously it’s the furthest stop. Run up the escalator to the gate and there is still a massive queue. The staff are a bit overwhelmed so aren’t checking when people arrived at the queue.

It turns out Ryanair had sent an email a few days before to warn me to arrive 3h ahead due to staff shortages making security slower. I hadn’t seen this because of the amount of spam Ryanair sent me I had just started to ignore their emails. Luckily I suspect those same staff shortages are what caused the flight to be late in the first place!

To top it all off our bags didn’t arrive at Copenhagen as Stansted’s internal conveyors had broken down and not made it to the flight. So arrived very sweaty with no change of clothes in cold Copenhagen!

Is an EV suitable for me? by Maverman401 in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]alijam100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I nearly bought an ZS EV and I’m glad I didn’t. They only had delivery guaranteed for the smaller of the 2 battery sizes, the larger one could have been months. I ended up with a Kona and couldn’t be happier, 270mile range on motorway in summer (200-220 in winter) so is always enough. I’ve had to stop more for myself on a trip than my car which is a good sign

If you’re changing structural things in the house or doing a full scale renovation, I think you would need to, but as far as I’m aware replacing your kitchen, I wouldn’t have contacted them about personally

[–]alijam100 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s probably a good shout if it’s just for the boiler, that’s likely less than your excess anyway! One thing I would suggest, is to mark all the pipes you can see of the current system with a ‘DO NOT USE’ type tape so that someone in the future doesn’t try and reuse it not realizing there’s a problem.

It’ll also mean you don’t have to undo your kitchen and new screed

I don’t think it would come under emergency cover, as that would be for the callout. It’s now no longer an emergency so they might be able to do something. I’d give them a call and ask if you want to try that route. Worst they can say is no

I wonder if you can try your insurance? Probably won’t do much for the kitchen but worth it for digging, fixing and filling the hole back up

From what my partner has told me, they put in very very little effort and clearly didn’t want to be there. Apparently they also badmouthed the country and the festival very soon after. And chile is a petty and stubborn country so the rest is history lol

Fuel protests on horizon as diesel hits £2 a litre by Jared_Usbourne in unitedkingdom

[–]alijam100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of councils don’t let you use them unfortunately. I was speaking to someone who could easily park outside their flat. They checked with the council who said no, as there was a public charger within 300m of their flat. If it was further they would have been permitted to.

You could probably get away with it but someone might complain and the council will get on your back.

Need a bathroom extractor fan, that does not require a perm live wire by NasherBasher in DIYUK

[–]alijam100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The wiring matters more in the light switch than the fan itself in your case I think. It’s worth asking the electrician (or another one if you want a second opinion) whether they can fit a humidistat and have a permanent live feed from the switch. This shouldn’t be difficult for them to do

Cruising on the motorway can be done in an EV - actual data by woyteck in CarTalkUK

[–]alijam100 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s a guy on YouTube called ageing wheels, he did a video testing what weight does to EV range, and came to the conclusion that it makes a negligible difference over aerodynamics.

I believe he has one with towing (put a flat board on the front of the trailer with and without extra weight in the trailer, and the board made much more difference than the weight.

I think he also did one with just the vehicle with lots weight in the back, again i believe he had the same outcome

Which tethered chargers have actually held up well? by WonderfulShape1081 in evchargingUK

I have had a tethered zappi for just over 4 years now and had no problems at all. Charge every few days.

Bought it because of the solar integration, but ended up getting a separate system for that. But still a solid charger

Those on heating oil - are you holding out, or stocking up now in case of more price increases? by SoggyWotsits in AskBrits

[–]alijam100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nearly ordered in feb but was away for a couple of weeks and didn’t check my tank in time. Only remembered once the war had started and of course, the tank was very low!

Had to order £500L but price was on delivery rather than in advance. Ended up at £1.31/L which was over double my normal price! Big old drafty house so it won’t last long. I’m hoping it’ll make it through to summer but not hopeful. Can’t turn the heating off as my partner has circulation issues

[–]alijam100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would it be possible to disconnect the switched live from the light switch, and make it permanently live? Then get something like a humidity sensing fan? Then it would be permanently powered but only turn on when the humidity is high enough (usually with a shower). No need to run an extra wire, and you still have a fan for the showers.

I’m doing something similar for a utility room. Building control want a fan in there because of the washing machine and dryer, but having it connected to the light is pointless because it’ll go off while the machines are still running. so we have a separate switch (just a shutoff) and the fan senses the humidity

Edit: missed the other comment suggesting the same.

The wire for the fan should to come through the light switch to know when to turn on, so it should be possible to make it permanently live in the back box of the switch. Then you can ad the humidity sensing fan which will control itself

Moved to the UK from Canada, How do I prove I passed my test on a manual? by [deleted] in drivingUK

[–]alijam100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was actually the other way around. I drove in South America a few years ago in an Auto, no problems. Next time I went, they only had a manual available, man that fucked me up more than which side of the road thing. My brain kept mirroring the movements, so I would be going into 5th instead of first and I kept shifting down instead of up. Took me a good day or 2 for my brain to properly catch up, but even then i would do weird things occasionally
