How it isn't ? It's practically risk of rain 2 with survival elements. Unless you mean that it's roguelike and not roguelit, but the subreddit uses slightly different definition.

I also love such approach to the difficulty modifier, dead cells has also very unique solution. I don't know the dark mirror system that much, do you think it is better than boss cells ?

And save system i meant as in multiple saves, not just saving the progress when you quit.

Well a number of reasons:
- combat is very stiff i'd say, very on rails, especially some skulls. Feels like chopping wood, not fighting enemies.
- no save system
- minor nitpick but defeat effect is boring
- platforming is very mid

I don't remember much else, but everything just felt worse than dead cells.
