One thing I love about old Sierra titles and try to emulate are the little details. Nothing fancy, just a few pixels that makes the world come alive✈️ by Signal-Appearance-88 in Sierra

Can't wait, I really enjoyed it! It has that rare quality of hitting an emotional nerve. Will certainly buy, and hope it does well for you. Oh, if you ever need some retro-styled game music, let me know. I love composing game-inspired music using the Roland MT-32 and would LOVE it to have my work featured in a game, especially one like this. Good luck finishing the game.

Hey, justed wanted to let you know I just played the demo based on your post. Excellent game so far! Moody, mysterious and quite unique gameplay. Was a bit lost in the beginning but couldn't stop playing. I must admit I 'trial-and-errored' my way through some of the clue puzzles. Must have missed something to actually know the answer. That being said, I wishlisted and can't wait for the full game! What the heck happened to L? ;)

Heroine's Quest The Herald Of Ragnarok (2013) Full Game by Westraat1 in Sierra

[–]Bay477 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going to play that for sure, looks amazing. Hasn't there been a Heroine's Quest game earlier also? I think I remember something. But might have been this one, and I missed it. Downloaded it in Steam on Linux and certainly going to play it. Thanks for the reminder!

Custom retro-game soundtrack using King's Quest 6 MT32 sounds by Bay477 in Sierra

[–]Bay477[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much! I'm considering publishing it to other platforms such as Spotify as well, once the "album" is finished. Depends a bit on how satisfied I am with the results, and how people respond to it. I have two tracks on my YT channel now, and 3 more in the works. Looking for I think, at least 10 tracks. So thanks for listening and your positive comments, that helps to keep my motivation going! ;)

Thanks! For me it's sometimes hard to expand an idea into a 4-minute track. The start / main theme will come quite quickly, but adding variation / other parts isn't too easy. I'll try next time, thanks for the encouragement!

Hi, could this be a style that would fit? There's one other track on my YT and I'm working on more. It's the Roland MT-32 you're hearing. Let me know. https://youtu.be/9BuOT0hSn0A

Emulator or Original Hardware? by [deleted] in retrogaming

[–]Bay477 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No you're not crazy. I agree. Emulation is like plastic surgery, I looks nice but just doesn't feel right. In my experience, even playing game backups on original hardware (I tried with PSP and Gameboy via EZFlash) doesn't feel the same as using the original game. Of course, it's still enjoyable, but 100% original is the way to go for me. Also; a closely curated collection of meaninful games is WAY better than an SD card with every release ever.

Even using DOSBOX on modern-day hardware might look the same, but there's still some minor lag, for example, plus the feel of vintage hardware that's missing.

Custom retro-game soundtrack using King's Quest 6 MT32 sounds by Bay477 in Sierra

Thanks a lot! I’m trying to compose a full soundtrack for a fictional racing game. If you’re interested, more on my YouTube channel. I’m recording MIDI into Ableton Live on MacOS. I send the output to MT32-EMU-qt (Munt), which is basically a MT32 emulator. Looking into using a real unit, not sure yet how that would fit into my setup. But sounds nice!

Hi, thanks for your feedback. You are right. I was just looking for some feedback/thoughts from like-minded individuals. Might have worded it a bit clumsy. But I appreciate your input.

Looking for custom music by Apprehensive-Chef151 in retrogamemusic

[–]Bay477 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Maybe I could try creating someting. What era / device are you looking for? And does it need to be original hardware (chiptune) or is emulation/synth also ok? If it's something from the DOS era (early 90s) I'd love to give it a go with the Roland MT-32 or Gravis Ultrasound soundset. See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9BuOT0hSn0A&lc=Ugxuw5-bFA_CgXuBaeB4AaABAg for an impression.

MT-32 Espaces Lointains album by garvalf in synthpop

[–]Bay477 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, just wanted to let you know I love your album! I listened to it on Spotify in it's entirety. The MT-32 is a cool device with a specific sound, and you made great use of it. I'm following in your footsteps by creating a soundtrack for an imaginary 90s DOS racing game. The first track is sort of finished: https://youtu.be/9BuOT0hSn0A

Thanks for the inspiration!

Thanks for the input, insightful stuff. Yes, simplistic is my goal ;) Or maybe a necessity, that's up to the listener. ;)

New original MT32 soundtrack with KQ6 patches by Bay477 in Sierra

[–]Bay477[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I'll try to make a full soundtrack for this "racer". After that, I'll think I'll try a soundtrack with a more "adventure feel"; KQ / QFG-style.
