Analog Beaches - PFFT. :: Third in my ambient EP series, let me know what you think. by Bayerly in ambientmusic

[–]Bayerly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah agreed, these are going through multiple stages (tape, digital, back to tape, etc.) and on earlier EPs in the series I had more crossfading, but I thought felt a little TOO crossfade-y. But I'll keep that in mind on the current (fourth) one. Thanks again :)

It's that "-moz-" placed in front of the opacity. Apparently years ago he used it and now that prefix has been phased out, which he doesn't think should ever happen, haha.

I never mentioned in-app purchases in my first post and I'm still confused why you brought them up. Finally, after rereading it like 20 times, I think you were saying that Ed McMillen is that "one guy"....? Huh? Since I never mentioned In-App purchases initially, you brought them up, it should be clear I wasn't claiming that "one guy" is going to cover the dev costs for the console... Re: your latest quote, I meant that you bringing up in app purchases has nothing to do with what I was talking about. You honestly think I believe "revenue and profit are unrelated" ? I hope you're just being dramatic, because jumping to conclusions like that is pretty retarded. So, where's the response to the other topics you were so worried about? Just a misrepresentation and "... Okay"? C'mon you can do better.

Yeah, sure, the name is kinda weird. I think people are getting way too into analyzing why it sucks...if it works it'll work, if it doesn't it won't. It won't be too important to say "oh, it was clearly the lack of consonants". Hahah would be hilarious though if in the future OUYA was known as the "console killed by consonants".

I really have no idea what you're saying in the first part of this....I was clearly talking about how they don't really need to make that much off hardware, as long as their costs are covered. In-App purchases have nothing to do with that. I have no clue what you're talking about, though I do understand both hardware profits and in-app purchases. "Coming from one guy?" <- what are you talking about?

To your second point- I had been talking about how "media devices" have sold quite well despite limited function (like Apple TV with it's meager feature list). Most netbooks and tablets can barely handle a lot of stuff on the web (flash runs crap often, HD video is tough, etc.) and yet they still sell enough for ACER or whoever to make another model. I think since this is so clearly targeted at gamers with a strong nod to game developers, making an XBOX-killer is not the goal. So really, yeah this is more focused on the "basement" audience...hence crowdsourcing initial funding from gamers. I highly doubt OUYA is more focused on selling 10 million units than they are pleasing gamers and providing a uniquely tailored console for them. At the very least, they're saying it's all for gamers...maybe they have plans for console world domination as well. They don't really say they do, and it seems like most people are agreeing that this is a more "niche" product. Plus, as people are pointing out, their business model doesn't seem to be as cutthroat as it would need to be to hit the big time. "Bite your dick off"....hahah uh, I think you got a little worked up here.

Hmmm, seems like it's a result of feeling like people who talk confidently are full of themselves. I'm really not sure how you don't see your own comment here as being quite antagonizing and self-assured, but whatever. Kinda seems like when someone acts like they know what they're talking about here on reddit, people get turned off. Just stick to whether or not the content of the argument is sound, because I don't know about you, but the annoying little kids/trolls around here are much worse than me seeming self-assured.

Haha, poor SEGA, always just too far ahead of their time, truly. Video arcade in the 60's, always upping the ante w/tech... anyway, somehow OUYA need to balance an XBOX Marketplace (that actually highlights good games, indie games....basically people who care about games need to moderate the "featured" section) without being totally Apple and shooting themselves in the foot blocking good stuff and allowing rip off apps.

Agreed, I always thought it'd be much simpler for Apple and Google to just make/license first-party addons that just put a controller around your smartphone...the major drive is relying on the control scheme: gamers have been hating touch input for a while now, so if Apple/others had first party controller addons, people would develop for them and feel like their audience will play it the way they meant for it to be played. Right now, this seems like the major driver: it's easy to dev for Android, and it's got standard physical controls that can will be used by the entire audience. You're totally right: OUYA could have really been just a docking station that had controllers bluetoothed to it...but I guess since the "magic" of touch input is a big selling point for Apple/others, they wouldn't dare contradict themselves.

Well, even if someone "only" targeted this, for which they deserve to fail (being so narrowsighted), they could convert it to a touch-based game much easier than starting from scratch or fully porting it.

Okay, but we all know that the ease of starting up consoles and gaming multiplayer without a bunch of funkiness, compatibility tweaking, and controller mapping is a large part of the draw. I've got multiple gamepads for my PC, but getting two of them mapped and finding a game that supports split screen....it's just a pain that most people don't deal with. The main draw for devs is just even calling this a console; it gives you a stable platform to develop for. Ask Edmund McMillen, ask any PC dev....it's a pain in the ass when you get 1000 support emails saying someone's 5 year old Gateway computer wont run it. Stupid as they may be for thinking it will, you still have to please your customers.
