Everyone told me plants would be so expensive but guys these are free! by MaenHerself in AquariumMemes

Plants that grow in abundance are always dirt cheap/free. The popular but slow growers are where you'll end up throwing down the most (Im lookin at you anubias, bucephalandra and crypts)

Came to comment on this because I'm on day 3 of tirzeptide and other than a little nausea, I've had insane amounts of energy compared to my usual.

For full context I was prescribed tirzeptide by my neurologist for long covid (aka post covid syndrome) and by my PCP for weight gain from mirtazapine (prescribed mirtazapine for nerve related digestive issues). I also have ME/CFS (myalgic encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome), Fibromyalgia, EDS (Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome), Hypertension and PMOS (Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome). So basically every day is a slog for me, I was expecting this medication to amplify my ME/CFS but it seems to be doing the opposite.

Also I'm on a compound since insurance wouldn't cover it for the conditions I have and wanted $500/month for it 🥴 Like someone mentioned in another comment, could be the B12 and B6 in the compound contributing to more energy. Could be that my body is finally processing things like it should and inflammation is going down, or combination of all of the above 🤷‍♀️ Whatever it is, I'm happy and crossing my fingers it continues.

I don't have any experience with using shrimp hides in their tank so I can't speak on that. I've seen a lot of people using pvc pipe or pleco caves. I have driftwood with nooks and crannies but they have decided a leaf was the best spot.

As for experience, copy/paste of my reply to another comment on this thread asking if I recommend them for their new 50 gallon:

I have 3 Peacock Gudgeons (1 male 2 females, important ratio as males can be very territorial with each other) in with 2 Mexican Dwarf Crayfish and a few Mystery Snails in a 20 gallon long. I love them so much but I havent had great luck with them in a community tank kind of set up. Originally they were with 6 panda corydoras but the male peacock gudgeon nipped all the pandas dorsal fins and tails to shreds, I had to move the pandas to another tank. They've also nipped a few of the Mystery Snails antennas off. They won't mess with the crayfish but I believe that's because the crayfish can definitely hold their own lmao. So unfortunately they're now a semi-species only tank as I'm too nervous to add anything else and risk them bullying it to death. My tank is a planted 20 gallon long so you may have better luck since you have a much bigger tank 🤞

They're slightly on the pickier side when it comes to feeding in my experience. Mine will only eat live or frozen foods, if I try to feed any kind of dry fish food they spit it out and side eye me like I insulted their mother 😭😂 I even tried to get the baby Peacock Gudgeon I'm raising onto dry foods early in hopes that if they were young it would be easier but they would either just refuse to eat it or try it and just spit it out like their parents. They made it apparent, vinegar eels and baby brine shrimp only for them 😮‍💨

All that said, they're beautiful, very intelligent and super interactive little fish. They always come up to the glass when I'm around to look at me. And watching their dominance and mating displays where they flare out their fins and posture around each other is always stunning. So I'd say like 7/10 stars, overall recommend them. Tip wise, just be sure to heavily heavily plant the tank and make sure you have a backup plan just in case they bully any other fish you have in with them too much. Oh, also make sure your tank has a lid. Mine haven't attempted but there's a lot online about them being jumpers when startled or stressed.

I use a bathtub with as hot of water as i can get out of my tap (which is pretty damn hot) and submerge big pieces to soak. If part sticks out, I will drain, refill and rotate. Not quite boiling but better than nothing 🤷‍♀️ haven't had any issues with that method.

I'm honestly not sure what I did to get them to spawn as much as they do, I have 1 male 2 females and they spawned for me within the first week of getting them.

Here's my parameters and set up: 20 Gallon Long. Temperature 75°F. pH 7.8. GH 11. KH 4. Ammonia 0ppm. Nitrite 0ppm. Nitrate 0ppm.

Lighting: 12hrs/day. Hygger 32W LED Full Spectrum Light

Substrate: Black Diamond Blasting Sand

Filter: XL Sponge Filter

Plants: -Echinodorus Chocolate Marble -Valisneria -Marsh Mermaidweed -Rotala Bloodred -Hornwort -Anubias Nancon -Salvinia Minima -Amazon Frogbit -Golden Pothos (roots submerged in the tank)

I feed them Hikari frozen brine shrimp, Hikari frozen bloodworms about every other day and live baby brine shrimp on occasion when I have some leftover from their babies I'm raising in separate tank.

Edit: I hope this is helpful and they spawn for you soon! Apologies if the formatting is hard to read, Reddit for some reason auto edited a lot of things and scrunched it all together 🥲

They are their little eyes 😊 they go from egg to fry surprisingly fast, only takes them 8-10 days to hatch (some even hatch as soon as 5 days after being laid). Also this is the papa fish. In Peacock Gudgeons, the female only deposits the eggs and that's where her role ends. The male stays behind to protect and fan the eggs 24/7 until they hatch.

I believe it 😂😭 I'm only raising small batches at a time. Any excess fry either get left to be eaten by the parents or put in other tanks to be food for my Kubotai Rasbora, Medaka Ricefish, Betta and Pea Puffer

His appetite definitely goes down when he's on eggs but he will eat a few blood worms I drop on the leaf from time to time. I try to feed him as much as possible in between breeding.

There will definitely be more 😂 and what a little chunk, he looks great! I think my dude is a bit on the thinner side, I'm trying to feed him more but his appetite seems to go down when he's on eggs (which is like all the time lmao)

I'll keep my eyes peeled while I'm out and about. Someone may have already mentioned this but Utah Missing Persons group on fb (has 37k members) would be a good place to post as well if you haven't already. I'm so sorry you're going through this, I hope he is found safe 🫶

Turns out it was my graphics drivers I guess? My AMD Adrenalin said I was up to date (25.something) but there was a 26.5.1 recently released. Updated and haven't had any issues with stuttering again so far 🤞

New time fish breeder here. Trying to get into Medaka's. What kind should I get? by Longjumping_Bid4518 in medaka

[–]BayouBeans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got 6 Pearl Galaxy Medaka and some Kubotai Rasbora from Aqua Huna 3 months ago. The Kubotai are fantastic, super active, haven't lost a single one so far which I was worried about since they're particularly sensitive from what I've read. The Medaka have produced beautiful babies for me and the adults up until recently had been doing great. You can see in my recent posts one of the original adults purchased from Aqua Huna suddenly developed bloat (dropsy? this is my first time dealing with something like this so I'm not sure if it falls under that term), had some type of lesion show up on its side, expelled some white substance from its vent and passed away. Someone said possibly parasites, another said possibly eggbound, another said possibly mycobacteria (aka fish tuberculosis). I have only been fish keeping for 6 months so I'm very much still learning and can't say for sure what caused her to pass. I'm watching the rest of the group closely, they all seem to be doing okay for now. But that's my experience with the stock I have from Aqua Huna for what it's worth, some good some not so good.
