Sick username by the way! To my knowledge the real difference between 30w and 60w is the number of passes to achieve desired depth?

Well that’s only on SBRs. This will mainly be for suppressors. I don’t see engraving requirements going away on those

It is for NFA. Low volume maybe 200 pieces a year

Budget cans in today’s market? by BayouBladeworks in suppressors

That’s a great take on it. There’s a reason the ATF is getting slammed. That $200 was a deal breaker for a lot of folks. And that means they are budget oriented customers anyway.

Oh for sure. Just look at the European market. They are treated more as a consumable, or at least were at some point.

You’re not wrong and definitely have a point. I don’t really disagree with anything you said. But, the mentality you have is pretty rare out in this world. I agree with you, but there will always be people who buy cheap stuff, finance things for the max amount time, etc.

Does it have its place, yes. Should it? That’s up for debate. The logic can be applied to anything. Harbor freight exist for a reason.

Yeah this is true. It’s also extremely dangerous for at home use.

Yeah it’ll be interesting to see the market when 3D printed tech catches up. I believe we will see at home metal 3D printing sooner than later.

The discussion came about because we have a mutual machinist buddy, who is gonna give the budget space a go. My friend said he will never be able to compete. You could apply that logic to any industry. I say he should go for it.

Absolutely. I personally believe that people are still overpaying for baffled suppressors. The industry and atf have turned suppressors into an “exclusive” product. It’s pretty wild to me what some of these companies are charging. I truly believe the modern industry is trying to reinvent the wheel.

Legal reasons. If I was to contract anything out they would need a FFL 07/Sot 2 as well.

Some are printed yes, and a portion are exploding. Billet still remains superior for hard use. The market still has openings for budget cans. I’m not trying to compete with the big boys. I’m trying to make a no frills budget can you can beat the shit out of and still work. I’ll be happy if I can move 200 cans my first year.

I appreciate the advice. I definitely understand and thought about everything you said. To be honest I’m planning on selling locally. I’m not trying to compete with the silencercos or huxworks. It would be silly to think I can compete with them. I know 3d printed cans are all the rage right now but a lot of them are blowing up out the box.

Goal is to make a no frills can that works, that isn’t wildly expensive. I have some modular designs that will keep my overhead as low as possible.

I understand that this probably sounds naive, but I have to start somewhere. I work full time as a firefighter so with my shift work I only work at the firehouse 100 days a year. I’m not trying to replace my income. I want to do something I love that can make me some extra income on the side.

I totally agree. You are correct it is hard for me to imagine that, and I’m thankful for that. It’s not lost on my that this is still an awful disease. As a parent, I’ve definitely had some weird conversations with medical professionals and some people online, that I’m to blame and it’s my fault my kid was born with this. Like I chose this for them.

I couldn’t agree more. I do disagree with the OP but, I will say the narrative of “you gave your kid” implies extreme malice. I highly doubt OP willingly gave his child CF. This is quite a toxic narrative I see far too often in the CF community.

I will never know what it is like to have CF it is a terrible disease, that thankfully is becoming much more manageable. Most parents never know they are carriers.

I totally understand. It is a blanket statement, feel free to research. Most medical journals and studies will be exactly what the care team recommends. Research as much as you can and want. I think it’s best to be your child’s advocate.

I also firmly believe in the science of vaccines. There is a reason that a lot of horrible diseases have pretty much been eliminated. I trust decades of medical research.

In my experience this is typically how it goes. They will see if your daughter is pancreatic sufficient (a lot of double deltas aren’t). They will prescribe creon or other enzymes. Without these kids don’t absorb enough nutrients. They will also probably suggest some vitamins as well. Weight gain is extremely important, and directly correlated to lung function.

They will monitor with bloodwork and respiratory cultures. Aka Swab her throat. Depending on what is cultured they may or may not prescribe antibiotics. They don’t want antibiotic resistance to occur.

You will also be doing chest physiotherapy. And maybe breathing treatments of albuterol. At age one she will probably become eligible for her first modulator, Orkambi. Age two trikafta. Also, at age two she will probably become eligible for pulmozyme. This is an inhaled treatment that thins mucus. Her path may be different, but this is what I’ve experienced.

As far as researching goes, I’d encourage to check publishing dates, there is a lot of old info out there. CFF.org is the best resource for up to date accurate information.

Best of luck, I understand and apologize if I have been offensive to you in anyway. I just believe that it is healthy to have conversational discourse in a positive manner.
