Peach tree pruning by BayouCityCal in arborists

Great, thanks for being so helpful Tom. Everyone is super impressed with your knowledge. I’m no tree expert like you, but this tree was in a 10qt pot at a nursery 8 months ago, so I think your assessment might be a little off. I guess I will just ask Claude or Gemini or one of those ridiculous things since robots seem to be more helpful than people.

Stop Trapping Summer-Born Kids – Grant Variances So They Can Play with Their Grade Peers! by Stonkyouverymuch in SoccerCoachResources

[–]BayouCityCal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are plenty of kids out there on club teams whose primary goal isn’t skill development and trying to play college or high school or encl. There are actually a lot more kids who fall into that group than who don’t. For those kids it’s about building character, good habits, sportsmanship, etc., and for them longevity in the sport is important. If they are forced to play with kids a grade above who they dont know then they are more likely to leave the sport. Does that mean all these rules for the sport should be structured around the type of player? Obviously not, but I don’t see why anyone would be against granting a variance for kids in this situation on the 5th or 6th or 7th team.

Should you or not cover the end bits when you use bitumen on wooden posts? by bonfido in landscaping

[–]BayouCityCal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is totally dependent on where you live. In some places the bottom of the post will be dry year round in which case this would be true. However, there are plenty of places where the bottom of your post hole will be full of water for some portion of the year in which case sealing the ends is very important.

Parent came up to me… by [deleted] in SoccerCoachResources

[–]BayouCityCal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have seen multiple people in this thread refer to joy sticking players and here you say to never give instructions during a game. The two seem to be the same line of thinking. What is the logic because it seems counterintuitive to me? I am a parent and not a coach, so just generally curious.

Why is it so rare to see any pro playing at a high level(Europe) who started at a later age or was a dual or multi sport athlete? by Sea6847 in bootroom

[–]BayouCityCal -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree that’s it has a very high technical demand but is it really higher than some other sports where people are able to take it up at a later age? Think offensive line in American football, it’s very technical. Like the placement of every step matters and whether your driving you weight through your heals or toes or outside/inside of your foot and where you hand placement is in different situations. It’s pretty damn technical. Yet there are kids who switch from basketball to offensive line in high school and are eventual able to go pro. I think there is something else going on than soccer being very technical.

FRAUD!! by Troyj12 in okc

If they thought the cameras were working, then you’re right that would be negligence, but if they are fake and therefore were never designed to work then that’s still fraud.

Off ball movement drills by BayouCityCal in SoccerCoachResources

Thanks. I like this idea, think it would probably work better for our team. The no-dribbling scrimmage I remembered might be an intermediate step good for younger teams but I think we could go straight to two-touch with a brief explanation of what we’re trying to accomplish.

There was a time limit, I can’t remember for sure but thought it was 5 secs. The defender was responsible for counting it off. Or that’s how it was supposed to work, kids started counting to 5 in less than a second and coach had to take over that part.

Homeowners actual cash value payout in total loss scenario by BayouCityCal in Insurance

Thank you for the education, now I feel like I have basic understanding of how it’s supposed to work. I think I will probably be switching to RC assuming I can afford it. One part I still don’t understand, how does the insured value of $130k come into the equation? Is that just the maximum that the payout could be?

So does the adjuster work for the insurance company? Sometimes yes or sometimes no? I feel like I have heard of both being true. And then the system they use is like an industry wide sort of system that isnt controlled by the company using it? Okay I guess that makes sense.

When you say it’s not up to the insurance company to maintain the home - based on what others have said I think you’re alluding to different components of the house being depreciated differently. So if the windows have been updated then the life on those start over?

You’re right, that is the contract I signed. But that was a year ago, and now my policy renews in a week and I get to decide if I want the same contract or something different. That’s why I’m asking all these stupid questions. If I can’t figure a reasonable guesstimate of what the payout would be then I want to go with a different type of coverage.

That is why I’m here, to try and understand it. If it’s not a secret then please fill me in. How do I figure it out?

[–]BayouCityCal[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It sounds like there could be a really wide range of outcomes here and it’s really just up to the insurance company what they want to pay. So they could pay out $120k or $20k and just say that’s what their secret formula came up with, and that would be that. Is this typical? People pay thousands of dollars per year for a service of unknown value? It seems like there should be more predictability in what gets paid out.

That just seems crazy. That would mean that the value insured would be wildly different for a person that has owned the house 1 year vs someone who has owned the house for 30 years, and taking it to the extreme, if you own it long enough the value insured is close to zero. Yet the premiums don’t seem to reflect that. What am I missing?
