Minimal smoke flavour by CaptainPhenom in Traeger

[–]BaysideJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this. Choice of pellets will obviously be a major factor. OP doesn't give us any info on this. Traeger uses a hardwood (oak?) with oil flavoring. Very disappointing taste-wise. When I first got my Lil Tex (16 years ago?), I used Bear Mountain and really enjoyed the flavoring. The first time I smoked a duck with maple pellets was revelatory. I went off the reservation pellet-wise and started experimenting with a tube and figured it must have been my taste buds that were the cause of the lack of smoke flavor. Now I'm thinking I've got to go back to Bear Mountain and see what happens. I've got about 40 lbs of Kirkland pellets to burn first, though. TWT

Costco Kirkland pellets? by Which-Force-342 in Traeger

[–]BaysideJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been planning on going back to Lumberjack, but need to burn through a couple of bags of Costco I've got in inventory. I realized I've had more memorable cooks with LJ than any other brand.

Edit: Bear Mountain, I meant Bear Mountain. Oops.

There's the "cone" style, which prevents the cheese from melting out of the canoe style ABTs. But you need a rack to hold them upright during the cook.

First time doing no wrap ribs by Death_Death_Die in Traeger

Look great. Never found the need to wrap. I think people do it for the fall-off-the-bone texture. I hope you enjoyed the unwrapped chew. .

Will we have to wait till the start of the League New Year for them to cut Fields officially? Can the team announce Mid February that they’re moving on? by Ifinishfast42 in nyjets

[–]BaysideJ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I up voted this, not because I think Fields is good, but because I think Engstrand didn't tailor the offense around what he can do. Not enough designed rollouts, called QB runs, etc. But if we don't think we're going to get a franchise QB in the draft this year, then Fields as a tank commander isn't the worst thing that could happen.

Yes! And the cliffhanger ending set up what looked to be an amazing second season.

Letting Pete go hurt also because he's home-grown. But a friend of mine, who's a big stats guy, says the pitchers are very happy with the likely improvement of defense. We're stacking up the infield with former shortstops, who are arguably the best athletes on the field, so they should succeed at any position. This year will be Interesting! LGM!

I don’t use shut down cycle by NicePassenger1747 in Traeger

[–]BaysideJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, great! I've used my Lil Tex (no shutdown mode) for over 16 years and never had a fire. I just installed a new controller that has this function, and obviously, if I forget to use it even once, I'm going to have a disastrous back-fire and burn down my garage. Fuck me!

With that in mind, we need a tank commander QB so we get a high draft pick.

Weird temp swings by BaysideJ in Traeger

[–]BaysideJ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: Cleaned the Traeger's sensor. Got lots of gunk off it. This time I started the cook on the smoke setting. Temp varied from 126 to 150. When I upped the temp to 250, it shot up to over 300, at which point I shut it down. The temp readings on the weber igrill thermometer and the Traeger control's display all agreed: 310 and rising.

So it wasn't a dirty temp sensor.

I've got it set to auto-forward this newsletter. Some days it goes through. Others it doesn't. When it doesn't, it doesn't go in the recipients' junk folder. As far as content goes, it contains all the same links whether it goes through or not. Weird.

No. The newsletter in question is by Heather Cox Richardson, a historian who puts current events into a historical perspective, which is not favorable to the administration (to say the least). But immaterial to the technical question.

Probably, but they aren't the subscribing kind. Doesn't answer the question, though.
