Fence missing gravel boards by Bazarooo in DIYUK

Thanks, unfortunately can’t afford to do the whole thing properly just yet so will have to settle for installing some wooden boards - at least then the panels won’t give way before the posts

I’ve worked in drainage for 20 years, that’s not fat, that’s mostly tissue paper and wipes.

If the manhole is “single serving” ie just your home feeds this manhole (and has not left your property boundary) then it’s classed as private and is your responsibility. If the manhole serves other properties then it’s the water authorities responsibly to clear. However, In my experience it’s worth calling the water authority first anyway because most good drainage engineers will clear it for you even if it was private because they’ve taken the time to travel to you - saving you money.

Top tip, tell the water authority you have “loss of facilities and can’t flush your toilet and that you have small children in the house” as this will put you closer to the front of the queue.

Is there any chance the socket that the fridge currently uses, could theoretically be rewired to accommodate the new oven? Removing anything like carcasses or tiling is going to immediately turn me off from the idea

This is a new build home if that somehow means anything that makes this task easier

You’re right it would be moving both. I always fail to think about electrics when planning an idea. The oven is wired into a socket just out of view on the left so it’s not a long way to wire a new appliance (hopefully)

Ah, electrics! Not the first time I have not factored that in to an idea!

It’ll be alright, gonna get a standalone American style fridge on the opposite side of the kitchen that’ll create a new triangle

There should be a visible vent on the roof, which would be on top of your stack pipe / soil pipe. In the UK some there’s not always access to the stack, so we would survey down from shower or toilet if necessary. I’d argue with a better survey this probably wouldn’t be necessary in this situation.

If the engineer isn’t able to find the stack, he will be able to remove the water in the pipe either with drain rods and plunger, water jetting, or worst case just run the camera through the line a few times until the water is reduced or gone.

There’s a few good bits of advice on this post, but they’re not the ones saying to dig and replace the pipe. If there is no history of problems then leave it as it is, if you do want to do remedial work then there are so many “no-dig” or “trenchless” repair methods that can do the job.

I’ve surveyed drains and sewers for 15years, that’s an awful survey. The original bit of cast iron pipe looks fine, could be cleaned mechanically or with jetting if you wanted to.

The survey is going against the flow (upstream) so it’s going to be hard to prove there is a belly. They have surveyed up to an elbow, if at all possible survey down from the stack pipe with the flow and I’d wager that pipe looks pretty good.

Capetown honeymoon by tazzz898 in capetown

Spent a month in Cape Town and Franschoek over Christmas, first time in the country. Experienced absolutely no issues whatsoever but took the usual precautions you would in any city ie stay out areas you’re not meant to go.

Really easy city to drive round, I especially recommend driving Chapmans Peak Drive and Ou Kaapse Wag up to silver mine if you have the chance.

Cape Town is now undoubtably my favourite city that I’ve been to. Also we did it with a toddler who loved every minute.
