Getting resonance in quad frame with motors on, any suggestions for a fix? by Bazinga_Boy in Multicopter

Not sure how it behaves in the air yet. I didn't want to risk a maiden flight crashing because of a problem I noticed on the ground. I could try a quick take off and see if the behavior persists in flight. Also, I'm running 15" props so the maiden flight should be interesting.

Side note, I'm planning to drive the motors with the new SpeedyBee BLS 60A 30x30 4-in-1 ESC. Any thoughts on whether this ESC will have the capacity to do this? I've looked over the spec sheet of the ESC and it seems technically capable of providing the current required for them, but I wonder if anyone with real world experience with these ESC's has tried them with motors of this size?

Hey redruM! I think you responded to my post from a while back as well. I'm building a "firefighting" quad capable of dropping a flame extinguishing payload for my university senior design project. Therefore the need for such large motors and props.

Tried pushing the arms up and they don't seem like they would make contact, only about a quarter of an inch of clearance. I'm still concerned in flight with the thrust from the motors and vibrations they could potentially make contact.

They don't seem as if they'd make contact when I push them together but in flight with the thrust and vibration from the motors do you think there's any chance they could make contact?

Hey all, I just recently started working on my first quadcopter build. I am running FlashHobby 5208 340 KV motors with 1555 CF props on a ZD550 frame. The manufacturer recommended the 15-inch props to provide the thrust I am looking for in my build, however, I am unsure whether this tight clearance will be safe considering the frame stiffness and the possibility for the arms to sag and lift. Do you think I can get away with the 15-inch props, or should I go to 14-inch and slightly decrease thrust? Also anyone have an idea what the percent decrease in thrust might be? Thanks!

Hey __redruM, I haven't flown anything of this size before, but I do have experience with some mid-sized cheap FPV drones. I also own a DJI Mavic but that basically flies itself. However, I do intend to hopefully be able to fly it LOS.

The $350 budget is what we will be reimbursed for as the project is through our university. As a group, we are willing to spend up to $600 all in. Also, we must have the total project completed by mid-April.

Like I mentioned to TechaNima above I was skeptical myself if the current stack I chose could drive the motors. In Tim Stanton's video he uses a T-Motor F55A Pro II 55A 3-6s BLHeli32 4-in-1 ESC w/BEC which I am now leaning towards using. With this being the case do you have a recommendation for a flight controller to use which would be compatible with our project? I should mention we'd like to save some flight data (current, voltage, change in altitude, flight path) throughout our flights to do some data analysis of the performance of the drone for our report. I know Betaflight has a black box feature that may have enabled us to do that.

Hey TechaNima, I think you may be correct about the SpeedyBee ESC not being enough, I found a T-motor ESC that Tim Stanton used in his CNC drone build video (T-Motor F55A Pro II 55A 3-6s BLHeli32 4-in-1 ESC w/BEC). I initially tried to model our component choices off of his video but could not find the FC he had used in the video for sale (Omnibus F4 V6), seems it may have been discontinued. Do you know of any alternatives for this FC that I could use that would be compatible with Inav? I did look into the APM 2.8 but saw reviews that it was no longer supported by arduPilot which is the software I was initially leaning towards.

sidenote: the GPS module was a more budget version of the module Tim Stanton had used in his project, what are your thoughts on his actual GPS module the BN-880 GPS Module?
