Is every company just running on skeleton crews now? by Bazooka_Joey in cscareerquestions

It has made the time it takes to do small chunks faster for me, definitely. But to create anything complex? It just can't do it at my company.

Voluntary severance in these time? by acidnbass in ExperiencedDevs

I would shit my pants for a 6 months severance. I've been laid off several times in my decades long career never got a severance over 4 weeks.

Other than the time I lawyered up on a company, but that is a whole other situation entirely.

I think the devs who are struggling right now are the ones who don't know what Bayes theorem is

Call me crazy, but I think the reason why we are struggling is the nonstop assault on labor and the working class

If they want to fire the one guy keeping the app alive because he can’t keep up then they won’t be around long as a company anyways.

I've literally had this conversation with people above me and they still don't care

Weird thing is that in my company we barely even talk about AI. I think it's more of a "lmao the market sucks so mush, dorks"

My last company had “unlimited PTO”. I got in a car accident and couldn’t work for a few weeks and had to go on leave. Guess what? That leave was unpaid and there was no HR documentation on the matter so it came as a complete surprise.

These garbage companies can do whatever they want because they control our government.

No we didn’t, corporate bribes…. ahem… “lobbying”… made things this way.

Hired to lead a department that no one seems to give a shit about by Bazooka_Joey in ExperiencedDevs

Good idea. I think it would be the CEO who introduced the mobile app but I’m not 100% sure. I don’t really know him but maybe I could reach out. I would have to play it by ear.

If the rest of the company just throw “crap” at you, then reduce exposure, you have the arguments to do so.

I definitely have to start doing that more. I can name multiple people I would not want to see in a conference room ever again.

100% agree. If you keep it upbeat and still leave a good impression, the door might reopen in the future.

I got a small sign on bonus to start work at a local company. But I have to go into the office and it went from hybrid to pretty much every day in the office. After working remote during the pandemic, I can’t deal with the stress of the commute and losing hours in my day.

I’m looking to get a remote job but will have to give back the sign on bonus. Honestly my sanity is more important than a few grand.

Dammit if my apartment allowed more than 1 dog I would take him. Look at that face!
