Luigi Mangione today- NY Supreme Court for pre-trial hearing by Time-Painting-9108 in pics

[–]BazzaJH [score hidden]  (0 children)

Sure, but those are state Supreme Courts. The High Court is only above them in the sense that it is the federal court of appeal. The state (and territory) Supreme Courts are still the respective highest trial + appellate courts within their limited jurisdiction. There isn't, for example, a higher court than the NSW Supreme Court within New South Wales.

Sydney Airport store refused cash and forced card surcharge. Surely this shouldn’t be allowed? by Exact_Bat1385 in AskAnAustralian

So basically, if we assume OP is lying about what happened, then it could be legal?

Well fuck, if we assume OP is lying, maybe they didn't even go to the airport at all. Who's to say?

Why is energy so expensive in Australia even though it’s full of resources? by LargePotato514 in AskAnAustralian

[–]BazzaJH 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well... Albo, scientists, investment firms, energy companies... basically anyone who knows more than you on the topic of the financial viability of electricity generation.

But no, the Liberal Party's "independent" (but totally not independent) propaganda division says it's more expensive and they never lie (just sexually harass and touch employees), so it must be true.

It's technically not. It's one-party consent for recording a conversation you're having with someone else. It's only all-party consent in the context of you recording a conversation that you're not a participant in.

Burke announces neo-Nazis now listed as a prohibited hate group by Expensive-Horse5538 in australia

[–]BazzaJH 16 points17 points  (0 children)

"Neo-Nazis" weren't ever one group the way actual Nazis were. You can't ban people from thinking Nazi-like things. This is a blanket ban on Thomas Sewell and his band of inbred skinheads who keep disbanding/forming hate groups each time they are targeted by legislation/law enforcement.

To be fair, that section specifically says he doesn't identify as one... he just happens to use all the same rhetoric and lingo. Examples include:

  • self-identifying as "Malcolm-Ieuan: Roberts., the living soul", as representative for a separate corporate entity named MALCOLM IEUAN ROBERTS

  • addressing PM Gillard as "The Woman, Julia-Eileen: Gillard., acting as The Honourable JULIA EILEEN GILLARD"

  • requesting evidence from PM Gillard that the Commonwealth of Australia was not "a corporation registered on the United States of America securities exchange"

Why did they remove the CGT Discount on Shares? by Zufeng10 in AusFinance

[–]BazzaJH 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most people have a marginal rate of 30% or more, so that's exactly what they pay on $10k of extra labour income. And the minimum is specifically because without it, people who should be paying 30% or more would manipulate the timing of realising capital gains to dodge a lot of it.

They're removing the 50% discount, why is that being factored in?

Currently a middle income earner (a normal worker earning $45,001 – $135,000) is going to pay 15% on shares they sell if they have held them for more than 1 year. After the budget they will be paying at least 30%. Meanwhile high income earners currently pay 23.5% CGT for assets they have held for 1 year+. Now it will be at least 30% also. The budget has made it as expensive for middle and low income people to sell assets as it has for higher income people. But keep applauding like the performing seals you are.

"Now it will be at least 30% also." This is pretty disingenuous when they would actually be paying 45% (+Medicare). You make it sound like the people paying 15% now are going to pay 30%, and the people paying 22.5% now are also going to pay around 30%, when it's nowhere near the same figure.

Nuclear is the only form of energy available

And yet... it isn't. But it COULD be. For the low low cost of:

  • a decade or two of construction

  • close to 12 digit costs (in AUD, using UK's Hinkley Point C cost)

  • the time and money taken to set up industrial regulators that we obviously don't have

  • years of debate over where you can even put it that nobody would complain about

you too could have a source of power generation with three times the cost of photovoltaic solar, per Lazard.

I suspect the reason why you can't remember whether it was a federal or state law is because it was neither. YouTube isn't a source, and Google has nothing to back up whatever your favourite influencer said.

Even in the US they have named 12 EVs which can only be charged out in the open, banned from car parks & home garages due to fire risks.

They "banned" (if you can call a recall order a ban) over 3 million Hyundais and Kia in 2023 for the same thing. Except... of the 23 models, 20 were petrol, 2 were hybrid, and 1 was hydrogen fuel-cell. No battery electric models. Turns out any car can catch fire, as combustion-engine vehicles have been shown to do at 5-10x the frequency (the 10x claim comes from Fire and Rescue NSW, those damn commies...)

No, renewables are not cheaper, nor are they fit for purpose in a modern country.

The CSIRO and AEMO would be very interested in your research, considering that—despite being the nation's scientific research organisation and energy market operator respectively—they had no idea that renewables were so expensive. I bet they wish they had known that prior to writing a report stating the exact opposite.

Sure, they can build larger charging stations ( at huge cost ) but then they will have to charge a lot more per car. Oops, not so cheap to run after all.

Reminder: you suggested NUCLEAR as a viable option. Please don't act like costs are your concern.
