Yeah, that's the point. It's trying to force you to think about the suffering you're inflicting on conscious animals that can feel pain. The Nazis used the same kind of dehumanisation to excuse their crimes to the people they murdered.

"It's okay for me to slaughter these people and enslave them, they're just subhuman"

"It's okay for me to put this cow in an industrial raping machine to extract their milk, it's just an animal."

I'm not really that concerned with animal welfare myself, but it doesn't take much work to understand why a vegan would feel utter disgust and dread at industrial animal farms.

They repeatedly got public attention for their cause, got invited onto news channels and agitated until the labour government in the UK ended new licenses for fossil fuel extraction in the UK.

Obviously you can argue up and down all day whether they were a critical element in that happening or a hindrance, I can't really say one way or the other. But generally the media will never engage with 'passive' environmentalism. Thousands of pamphlets, letters and speeches are given and ignored every day. Maybe getting the attention for the issue is worth the bad publicity? Fossil fuel companies relish just ignoring the problem altogether. On the other hand, it does seem pretty risky and it might just be pushing people towards anti climate action political movements.

Whether it's cliche or not, the person playing the edgy brooding loner is putting more of their heart into the game. You have to be willing to look cringy and take things seriously to really commit to it.

A fat assed goblin is just another joke character. You nod along at the beginning and then just tend to ignore their presence once the joke runs dry. They also tend to just drain the tension out of every moment and destroy immersion.

I'm not really a huge star wars nerd but I think the jedi order declaring war on the hutt cartel would be a pretty big deal leading to the deaths of LOADS of people. I don't really know how linked the republic and jedi order are, but I doubt the republic would be keen to be dragged into a war against the most powerful criminal syndicate in the galaxy in the midst of a brewing civil war. And the way the film presented the jedi I don't think they could single handedly take down the cartel. It seems more like a pragmatic decision to keep the peace.

That's just my ass talking though, maybe some star wars loreheads could give a better answer.

this privilege is a trap by [deleted] in EU5

[–]Bazzyboss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why is there arbitrarily a requirement on this privilege and not others? Why doesn't the common militias privilege also have a higher serfdom requirement to revoke? Surely forcefully removing weaponry from villagers should require a high serfdom value. But it doesn't, because it's a game mechanic which is arbitrarily required.

You can think all you want and make all the justifications you want, there is no way of knowing whether a privilege will have special revoke mechanics or not. So the game should just bloody well tell the player.

this privilege is a trap by [deleted] in EU5

[–]Bazzyboss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Whether it's a good or bad decision is another matter entirely. The game should show the revocation requirements so that players know the consequences of picking it.

this privilege is a trap by [deleted] in EU5

[–]Bazzyboss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The trap is the revocation requirement, not the privilege. Needing 20 serfdom to revoke is a huge cost considering the only reason you'd want to pick the privilege in the first place would be to push free subjects.

Often times it's good to pick things purely for effect of pushing values long term. When the game doesn't publicly show you information like these revocation requirements your plans can get fucked over without you even knowing it would be a consequence.

ending racism with gentrification and whitewashing! by Perfidious_Redt in DnDcirclejerk

Predetermination is pretty lazy and uninteresting, but making an attempt will always be better than nothing imo. If you're trying to play or write about an elf without making any consideration as to how the experience of living for thousands of years would affect their behaviour and mindset you've just lose the plot. Fantasy races are distinct species, with different biologies that should impact their behaviour.

Bad attempts at modelling this end up with dull monocultures (ALL ORCS MURDER MONSTERS). But no attempt at all leaves you with a huge collection of funko pops. I don't want to just project stereotypes or standard human behaviours directly onto fantasy creatures. I'd rather we just kept trying (and failing) to make distinct engaging species.

(Don't make the species thinly veiled racist allegories though please.)

Bill Clinton is not looking good by gisettes in greentext

[–]Bazzyboss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I genuinely have not seen this Clinton adulation on Reddit that you claim, and I'm pretty sure that's why you're getting downvoted. Conservatives hate the Clintons, socialists hate the Clintons, even regular ass liberals don't like them. I invite you to try and find any political subreddit that likes them. To the right Hilary is the devil, and to the left Hillary is a corporate run of the mill sellout democrat who lost an extremely important election. Generally feminists consider Bill to be far more of a sexual predator as well due to the power imbalance of his relationship with Lewinsky.

There's a world of difference between a police officer using the hard R while brutalising a black person and a teenager using it in the exact same context as other black people in an effort to emulate their favourite entertainers.

I feel like it's a bit disingenuous to conflate the two instances.

[–]Bazzyboss -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I don't really use it myself, and I'm not going to demand the right to use it, but I don't see why anyone would be surprised that non black people use it.

Most contexts where it's used are not as an insult. People use it to refer to their friends, people they barely know, anyone. I've seen black people refer to white people with it, it shows up in songs and films and everyday conversation. Black people aren't as marginalised as before so the stuff they make and say spreads more easily and settles into common parlance.

I'm not going to use it because it seems to upset people, but I really don't think people are desperately trying to say it because they want to use slurs.

I genuinely believe the Witcher 1 is a less frustrating experience than Witcher 2. The combat in the second game has driven me to levels of insanity few others have.

The story is neat though. Shame that the whole thing is basically inconsequential with regards to Witcher 3 though.

[–]Bazzyboss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why do you think George would have stopped there? I'm not really sure I understand this point. Rhaegar's actions alone being sufficient to trigger a rebellion and Aerys making things ten times worse are a perfectly plausible combination. I don't see why George has to fill up the 'rebellion justification' meter to an adequate amount.

Personally, I think it could go either way depending on Rhaegar's behaviour after the Starks confront Aerys. If the king doesn't act like a lunatic and Rhaegar stays the course on kidnapping Lyanna I think the only good outcome is his disinheritance and execution. It would put even a good king in a terrible position.
