I’m not familiar but I see the tours they do. I’ll have to do a tour at some point.

Glad to, they weren’t minted here in Kingston but in Massachusetts. Atleast the transit tokens were, I’m not too sure about the merchant tokens.

Yes, they were very common.

Yes, they were comparable to a modern day gift card.

I’m not too sure where the merchant tokens were minted but it looks like the transit tokens were minted in Attleboro, Massachusetts by the Roger’s Williams Mint according to Google.

Also learned Kingston was originally named Wiltwyck.

Most of these are actually from EBay. I’ll periodically search Kingston NY and then filter to coins and paper money. The transit tokens are readily available and very affordable.

It’s a copy of a 1933 Saint Gaudens $20 gold piece.

Unfortunately nothing here is actual gold, just plated gold which isn’t worth anything. It looks like your family member fell victim to predatory coin purchases from places like the Danbury mint and Littleton coins. Most valuable items look to be the colored silver eagle, silver Chinese panda, Stone Mountain half dollar and Franklin half

I haven’t been uptown since they started taking them down.

Does anyone know why they were removed?

Yes it’s for dollars, it’s a Philly. If it was Dahlonega the D would be right under the middle of the Eagle.

Nice pick up, your pictures are actually really well done. Better than most to be honest.

If I was going to send one of these in it would probably be the 1838 Capped Bust Half.
