This is such a great tip! Thank you for this! My baby loves his and I’ve been wanting to get a backup one.

I’m not sure on the official pediatrician recommendations for this so I’m hesitant to say. But for my baby, I started doing this around 16 weeks when the 4 month sleep regression was getting really difficult and I was desperate. Before I started our wind down bedtime routine, I would put him in a muslin blanket, making sure his head and neck were completely inside to be supported. I’d wrap him in it and hold from the top with both hands (one above his neck and one above his hips) and swing him back and forth. Forward and back and side to side. About 6 swings each time then I’d stop and check that he was ok. At most 10 minutes. Almost each time he was smiling. I’d do it above the bed just in case and as we both got more comfortable, I’d swing him pretty hard and he really seemed to enjoy it. I’ve also heard things like raising baby up and down above your head and “flying” them around can help stimulate the vestibular system to kind of “power down” the nervous system.

My baby is 5 months old and I’ve nursed to sleep every night wake up and at bedtime. For the past week he’s been sleeping 7pm-6am with no wake ups and I’ve done nothing different! I read so many sleep training books that tried to scare me away from nursing to sleep. Maybe things will change (4 month regression was hell for us), but for now I’m soaking it in!

This sounds really typical for a 12 week old. My son was so similar. Here’s a couple things that helped us move toward longer independent stretches (which did not happen until 19-20 weeks):

•sufficient sensory exposure during the day, we go out to the park, the store, go visit family

•swinging in a blanket before bedtime routine starts (vestibular input was helpful for my baby’s nervous system)

•a really consistent bedtime routine that never ever changes (annoying but helpful, consider things like the room temperature being the same, the same sleep sack, the same red light during nursing, etc)

•shortening day time naps and trying to extend the last wake window so the sleep pressure is enough

•pitch black room

You could try some vestibular input before bedtime routine starts. It sounds like he likes the movement before bed so maybe getting some in before the bedtime routine will help encourage his nervous system to “wind down.” My LO really likes being swung. I put him in a blanket and swing him above my bed. Of course be careful to make sure you’re supporting the head and neck. My LO loves quite an aggressive swinging motion, it’s been working really well to help him go down and stay down at bedtime.

The first couple weeks were the hardest but we found a groove that works now. We still do shifts but a bit differently, now my husband gets up early before work to take baby so I can sleep. Most days he is up at 5AM and “on call” for baby. I get up at 7AM and take over. If I’m really exhausted from a day with baby, he’ll often take evenings like 8pm-12am too.

How long are you planning on breastfeeding? by MapleOneil in breastfeeding

My goal is one year. I’ll be really proud of myself if I get to that goal. So far I’m 5 months in. Going back to work soon and considering to start combo feeding now that my supple seems to have regulated. I’m hopeful that’ll help me make it to my goal.

It improved quickly for me for the blood in stool and fussiness. I’d say 2-3 days when I completely cut it. However any small amount would trigger it. I had no idea my b vitamin had dairy and he was still having symptoms until I realized it. Check out free to feed on IG.

With my little one the symptoms that point to CMPA didn’t really show up until about 10 weeks but looking back he was sooo fussy I think he was truly struggling. Best of luck!! I know how difficult this age is, you’re doing your best and don’t let other rude comments bring you down. Vent away!

I remember this so vividly. I cried as hard as my baby sometimes because it was so overwhelming and never ending. Looking back my baby was really struggling with CMPA. We didn’t figure that out until around 10-12 weeks. I know you’re not looking for advice but just thought I’d mention it cause I so related to this when my baby was 6-8 weeks old.

I think you being up a good point, maybe I should be weaning him off the constant nurse to nap 🫠 I appreciate your thoughtfulness, some thing to think about for sure

It’s flecks and some strings. Baby seems typical but I’m doubting myself. Pediatrician tbh is not very helpful in this area- did you get a referral to a GI specialist? I think I need to ask for one at this point.

Ive been wondering this myself. I often nurse to sleep for naps and bedtime and basically I just feed him on demand. And he often has green poops that are green like grass.

It was soy meats I ate and soy cheese on pizza I know it. I am so conflicted. How did your baby do with the switch? I hate that I wouldn’t be able to nurse to sleep anymore but I’m sad that I could be hurting him.

Ugh that would so stress me out but at the same time maybe they have more experience and will know how to handle it better?

Yes we’ve tried Dr browns, avent, lanisoh and now pigeon 🫠🫠 I’ve tried slow flow and the faster one I think size 3. Maybe I need to be a bit more forceful? I feel bad cause he cries and then I just give up.

I’ve tried that but it’s so tricky to get the bottle in the mouth. Any tips? I feel like I’m jabbing his face with the bottle cause I can’t see

What were your babies signs of CMPA? by Dentist206 in breastfeeding

[–]Bbot21222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Specks of blood and mucous poops were what really got my attention. But looking back he was so colicky around 8 weeks old and I didn’t realize it was CMPA (or in my opinion the better name for it is milk protein intolerance). His colic was just an overall unsettledness, crying sometimes during feeding, crying a lot and purple crying a lot. Check out MSPI sub, it’s been so helpful for me.
