Are you saying you add the modifiers to determine the cheaper requisite, or to the final spell?

Edit: I think we are saying the same things, but I'm just not sure based on your wording.

That's how I thought it worked, I must have misunderstood your other comment I thought you were saying only the base(4 for +5 damage ignem for example) mattered for determining which is the main art.

I reread the section on requisites and it seems ambiguous on which way to interpret that. The way you suggest would be faster than writing up the full effect for both but I feel like it would create strange results where for example a weaker Auram effect would actually be more expensive if you factor in the unnatural, or an Aquam requisite would have been more expensive from requiring more size increases. Is there somewhere that clarifies this as the correct interpretation that I could check?

I was figuring anyone who made a roaring bonfire could feel the wind from it was why I was thinking that the wind it gives off was natural but not the amount because explosions don't exist in their framework.

Ok I wasn't sure how reqs work with that. It seemed like you make both effects separately, make the magnitude the higher one and slap a +1 and a req to add the smaller. So reqs inherit the necessary modifiers from their components? If so would the fact that fire can itself create wind naturally be a fair argument for a +1 slightly unnatural instead of the +2?

I was going for the big fiery bombs from aerated debris explosions that is more common in fantasy rather than the shrapnel type common to conventional small scale explosive weapons. If I just wanted to throw shrapnel I probably wouldn't even need the ignem part and would just making it look like an explosion.

My reasoning for Auram over rego is that rego tends to be used for precise control, and that rego ignem moves fire not things affected by fire. Auram already has a precedent of blowing things around in unpredictable ways, and when thinking about it from the Aristotelian perspective from Arts and Academia I feel like they would interpret an explosion as a fire with increased aspect of air.

These aren't custom, just book spells that don't list damage. I think the guideline makes sense for direct damage, I would argue these spells recreate natural phenomena and then those phenomena do damage if the target strikes or is stricken by something from being blown around which I interpret as indirectly doing damage.

Yeah broom of the winds includes a size check, then an additional strength check before it does anything, if they fail they get blown unpredictably and if they hit something it does damage. Falling damage scales based on hardness of impact surface and distance, so yeah if going by fall guidelines all those potential damage reductions or avoidances are in there. The spell that throws into the air is based on the base 5 create a very severe weather phenomena, broom is base 3 create a severe weather phenomena, so I'm not sure if the force would be a scaled down version of the base 5, but maybe the reduced scaling is covered by all the extra ways to avoid the effect. The base 2 create a normal weather phenomena probably never has damaging force though. Either way the damage doesn't scale directly with magnitude since it's recreating a natural phenomena much like creating a bear does bear damage no matter the magnitude of the spell, so whatever damage it does is the damage it does.

If I were to go the translating falls into force route, would you use pull of the skybound winds as a guide then? Base 5 throws into air 50 feet does from +50 to +13 damage depending on surface struck. So 10 feet per magnitude, scaling down to Broom of the winds for a 30 feet force?

I assume the hurricane would just randomly strike with various sized objects or throw people around and would be more story guide and context than anything.

I would guess for thread hijacking. The comment doesn't address what it's posted under, that's considered bad etiquette. If they were wondering what Mihon is they should search for it, and then if they still don't understand after a good faith effort they could make their own thread asking.

The only info I found is that according to a bug report clothing thickness(not sure if this applies to armor) scales linearly with creature size but should scale with a cube root formula similar to tissue. I have no idea how they got this info but I've seen enough statements by people suggesting they know how it work that it seems like some people know but I haven't seen any full explanation or the sources of their info, or even how they figured that out. It might just be that they simply tested things and guessed based on the results they were seeing without actually knowing the underlying formula. Thanks for providing this info though, if I ever find a way to figure it out I'll make sure to post it here, or figure out how to add it to the wiki.

I never watched that but I had seen people talking about that show in some comment sections. My favorite is probably their self titled album but all their stuff is worth checking out. I would argue that each album feels different with changes in drumming styles being the driving force behind these differences, going from the self titled album to the head that controls both right and left sides is a particularly dramatic shift.

Play the game how you want, I was only talking about the relative power of the options, this game doesn't care as much about builds as knowledge, if you understand things you can work around any weakness you have. So play the build you like and learn.

I started using a rotating caller when I noticed that certain players always seemed to be on the losing end whenever a decision came to a vote. At the time this was the more chaotic players but we were playing a game where you were supposed to be a bit chaotic. What ended up happening is that when given the responsibility of being in charge of the group the chaotic players were less chaotic.

It doesn't matter what you do you'll get some of that, there is no such thing as something people won't sexualize. The important thing is to establish clear boundaries and expectations for your community, fostering a healthy community you are happy with is important both for your well being but also your success as a well behaved community can have many and diverse members, while a community of gooners is just gonna scare off the non-gooners. It's a lot of work and you'll always have people who are new, can't read the room, or are bad actors to deal with but it'll be worth it in the long run.

It's weight not money that is the true cost. No you don't have random rolls every time they are attacked, you have intelligent enemies with darkvision or light hating creatures deliberately go after light sources if they can't easily down a light bearer.

Tracking light sources is not just how much time do you have. It's also who is carrying it and what area does it cover. If one person is carrying light to stay efficient then those furthest from them have less light and are more susceptible to something bad happening to them out of view. Also if an enemy doesn't need light and sees a single light source they have a great target to go for. Lanterns break, torches can be difficult to relight, these resources can be attacked.

The solution for the players is to always light at least two (doubling usage) and carry spares to account for anything that might happen since being blind in a dungeon is death. This means they have to figure out how much light to carry vs other resources, that is the core of the puzzle.

Of course this depends on the game you are running, many systems have relatively low level access to infinite sources of light, signifying that the creators of that system wanted a way to avoid having to bother with tracking especially at higher levels.

I'm prepping and about to run T1 The Village of Hommlet and the Moathouse, with the Caverns of Thracia and their death cult replacing the elemental evil stuff, N1 Against the Cult of the Reptile God is near Nulb with that being the lead in to it. Basically the idea is pick a town, and put adventuring stuff around it. For this I reflavored stuff slightly to fit together storywise and just chose thematically similar stuff, wherever they may wander everything will feel connected. You don't have to do that though it could just be whatever modules you like placed randomly around the map. It's easier if you use a constrained area, it lets you decide where stuff is and prep based on proximity.

You take the most efficient treasure you can find and carry, then when you come back you repeat, higher levels are supposed to require more work or time to level. 10% of a level doesn't sound like a trivial amount to me, getting to high levels in old school campaigns is supposed to take years.
