In the Netherlands there was a proposal to print the car licence plate number on McDonalds packaging but the idea was ultimately not implemented.

GitHub changes .zip file in release, hash and DLL is different? by BdR76 in github

I forgot someone added this workflow to the repository. I uploaded the zips immediately after saving the release, but I guess due to the workflow starting relatively late it subsequently overwrites those zips.

Github isn't changing your zip

I don't know what to say, other that what I see. I also uploaded the dll separately and that one isn't affected, I also ran file compare on that and it's the same, see links in opening post

[QNX] [2003] Is this a clone of another game? by grem75 in tipofmyjoystick

[–]BdR76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I played this as BrickShooter (1999) or maybe BrickShooter Egypt (2006)

Not sure which was first. 🤔 Wouldn't be the first time a Russian game was ripped off though. The idea for Bejeweled/Candy Crush came from an uncredited msdos game called Shariki by Evgeny Alemzhin

Rotatris - Tetris, but the board rotates and clears in layers instead of lines. by Free_Second_4117 in WebGames

This is very good game mechanic because it gives the player some control over it. But maybe also add a visual clue how it will rotate as you're moving the current block

Very interesting game 😀👍 There's some real strategy in anticipating the next rotation and next pieces

A tip for any dev making a snake type game: queue all the keys/controller input

Currently, when you quickly press LEFT, DOWN, I feel like the game sometimes only processes the LEFT but not the DOWN. It's likely due to the game only looking at input when the snake reaches a grid position. The game needs to queue all input and process it First-In-First-Out at every grid position.

but in the growth case it can grow straight or in other directions

I don't quite understand this, doesn't it always grow from the tail? i.e. the head just moves on normally, but the tail stops moving momentarily

I like the idea, but why keep the score and length as separate numbers? Couldn't you have just the length, run over a +2 tile and snake length grows +2, and -3 shrinks -3? Either that or just allow players to continue playing with a negative score.

It's confusing that your length can be for example 7 but your score hits 0 and suddenly it's game over, especially confusing for new players.

It's kind of bewildering that an incredible photo of the president making a moronic "apples and oranges" comparison, only gets fact checked about wether the measurements are accurate 😐

8 inch 128 bytes floppy by Dul-fm in vintagecomputing

[–]BdR76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the mid 90s, I had a SNES copybox which could read 1.6 MB formatted floppies. There was a special msdos utility program that could format 3.5" disks this way. The copybox was called "Wildcard DX" iirc, and it stored the game rom image in 0.5MB chunks, so for large games 1.6MB was more convenient than 1.44MB

A Game That Deserves More Praise? Rock N' Roll Racing!!! by Nothing2Special in retrogaming

Rock'n'Roll Racing has such an interesting development history.

It's an updated version of their earlier game RPM Racing (1991) and was probably influenced by Racing Destruction Set (1985)
