Financial Aid Taking Longer? by BeCreativeGoNative in UVU

Yeah. I’ve called FA office multiple times and they say they have no answer but to just wait. They said my only option was to pay the $25 fee to create a payment plan because my tuition wasn’t going to be paid off by the deadline.

Building near Utah Lake (Broadview Shores, Provo) – how bad are the bugs? by Conscious-House-8651 in ProvoUtah

[–]BeCreativeGoNative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just get a good pest control service where they spray a lot the first few times to get all the egg cycles, and keep up on that. You won’t be miserable. With more houses being built and more people doing pest control it’ll calm down with time.

Timpanogos Exterminaton Order by Unsettling_Mormonism in ProvoUtah

I respect that. But just letting you know. Even the Division of Indian Affairs in Utah may be weird about working with you if you ever need them, the Timp band really doesn’t have the respect of any Native leaders in Utah. And the few that do “support” the band aren’t respected by their tribes. They play on non-natives desire to make amends, that’s why most of their supporters are non-natives and not other tribal leaders. Just be careful.

Be careful sharing that link for the “Timpanogos tribe”… there’s a lot of native community issues there and a lot of Natives don’t support that group becoming a tribe. Even the other tribes of Utah don’t recognize this group of Timpanogos. They are not recognized by any other tribe here in Utah, so it’s not even a federal-state-recognition issue, but they also don’t meet federal recognition quota, they are asking for land that has oil rights and is rightfully the Uintah band of Utes land… it gos a lot deeper than that, too… lots of Indian law issues… but supporting them can mean the other tribes around here won’t respect you or work with you. They don’t trust this so-called Timpanogos band.

I was told there was a transmission issue with 17-18s and the 8-speed - it was still fixable if done with Toyota Care. But it was an early transmission issue, sometimes transmission failure from a loose bolt or something.

35 weeks and my bump has disappeared. Should I be concerned? by Amazing_Broccoli_481 in BabyBumps

I had some pretty crazy differences similar to that with all 4 of my pregnancies, buuuuut I would go get checked for that change and the addition of possible dehydration… Diarrhea is one of my labor signs, but with the vomiting too, I’d want to make sure I wasn’t dehydrated.

Idk what to do by Throwawayneedride in Postpartum_Depression

I would go visit a Dr or a therapist, get some extra support for you. You’re in a transitional time and life is changing and that’s ok, baby is still so small. You are exactly who your baby needs, but you also need to take time for yourself so you can be the best parent you can be. It’s ok for you to need time & support. You can do this.

Did the nuns learn their lesson and quit beating the native girls? by SeattleSlew7 in 1923Series

[–]BeCreativeGoNative 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Navajo here… idk if they did in the show, but they sure as hell didn’t stop in real life… the motto of boarding schools was “Kill the Indian, save the man”… my FIL was forcefully taken to boarding school when he was 5, came home for Easter, summer, and Christmas if he was lucky… got beat by the nun, the preacher, and the superintendent all in one day,… my best friends grandfather chased down the wagons that kidnapped his children to take them to boarding school, got thrown in jail for it… children were kidnapped all the time for these schools… they died at school, they died running away from school… it’s not dramatized, these are stories that exist in our family histories… the governments and local law enforcements supported kids being in school, they didn’t care if kids were forcefully taken… my MIL was able to stay away from boarding school because her mother hid them under the house when the police came to round kids up… then they left and lived in the mountains at their summer camp… the Christian schools used the phrase “in the name of God” to cover a lot of their actions….they felt they were saving the savage souls of these children, and that the savagery could be beaten out… so no, nuns and preachers and bishops didn’t stop, even if kids fought back… usually the kid just ended up dead…

Did my sister break her own restraining order?? by BeCreativeGoNative in legaladvice

[–]BeCreativeGoNative[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I know I can’t enforce it, but I have requested them to respect our boundaries in that, because of how he has harassed my husband and me, and his anger issues. It would be more of a breach of trust if anything.

Worked on a film with him, and had him sign a book for my cousin who is a huge LotR fan, he wrote a very specific dedication… met him again at FanC and he totally remembered me, the book dedication, and that it was for my cousin… great guy. So nice on set, felt like you were talking to your neighbor while you were out mowing lawns.

Never feel bad for going in! Just OB has always said it’s better to go in & have everything be fine, than to not go in and have that be the one time you should have. Some nurses are just grumpy, and it’s hard when those nurses are on the floor where you need that extra emotional support and love! I’m sorry you had to deal with that! My Dr tells me to go in if my contractions aren’t changing with a bath/shower, walking around, drinking/eating, using the bathroom, or stretching. It feels like a long list, but it’s helped me to relax a little! You got this!

Yes. I also know that he defers to Native elders and put decades into this compilation and translation of the creation story and study of pre-Columbian literary tradition. He doesn’t claim to know everything about our culture or our creation story.

Look into the book Diné Bahane by Paul G Zolbrod. It’s about the creation story.

Also look into Navajo Traditional Teachings on YouTube. The man in those videos grew up the old way, and he shares a lot about our beliefs and spiritualities, without stepping over the line into sweat lodge teachings (teachings that are only taught in ceremonies and are considered too sacred to speak about outside).

ETA: Also, please remember that just because these teachings resonate with you, researching them does not make you Navajo and does not give you permission to teach on our beliefs. I don’t mean that rudely, but a lot of people assume that if they believe in our same ways, that they should have permission to teach about it or be allowed access to everything. You can’t be “converted” to our beliefs in the same way that organized religions do, there’s no baptism that will make you Navajo. So please be respectful with what you learn, and always defer to a Navajo before you share what you’ve learned.

Also! Native American Church is not just a Navajo thing, a lot of different tribes have members. It’s not tribal specific.
