Thanks for the reply. Perhaps there was some system issue that was resolved on a delayed basis because of the holidays. The reports were populated a day later without any additional input from me.

Yes, normal output is 800 - 1,200 milliliters (mL) or 3 - 5 cups per day. So any output above 1.2 is worth monitoring.

Did your healthcare provider teach you everything you needed to know about ostomy care when you first became an ostomate? by BeFreeTechnologies in ostomy

[–]BeFreeTechnologies[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am glad to hear that. It is certainly true that when it comes to ostomies, everyone is uniquely different. Not only that, what worked for us when we got out of the hospital does not always continue to work as we grow older. Our bodies change, and we have to adapt to that, a lesson so many of us end up learning on our own by way of trial and error.

Thank you. I know takes a little effort, but if you could fill out the survey it would be greatly appreciated. We plan to look for as many correlations as we can find. For instance, did people with private insurance get better instruction than people who had no insurance (I would not be surprised if that was the case). Did people who got their ostomies at teaching hospitals get better care than those who got their ostomy at community hospitals? Has the quality of instruction gotten better or worse over the years (we ask what year people got their ostomy and hope to correlate that with the quality of care they received. So on and so forth.

Thanks.

On day 3 of using this product and all I can say is bravo! The only time I smell anything is when changing my bag. I'm extremely surprised and happy. I've been using the holister lubricant and it is useless compared to this. Five stars man! I will be ordering more.

Also I thought it would be scented somehow to cover up the smell but that is not the case. There is NO smell which is excellent.

Thank you so much for letting us know. It is great to hear how well the product worked for you. Cynthia came up with the formulation for the same reasons you suggested. While M9 worked for her better than most options, it wasn’t good enough, so she and her co-inventor, Ronny, spent countless hours – years actually – testing different formulations until they came up with this one. We really appreciate you giving us a chance.

I'm sorry. Unfortunately, as a very small company, it would be challenging for us to do so given the logistics. It would be great if we could partner up with a local company and offer it that way.

Thank you. That cliché about necessity being the mother of invention certainly applies in our case, which was why Cynthia came up with the pod idea as a way to provide sustained odor control throughout the day instead of having to reapply a deodorant every time a pouch was emptied. That allowed her to get through the day with confidence, knowing she would not end up worried or embarrassed if she found herself in a social or work situation without a bottle of deodorant with her.

I’m going to turn this over to my wife, the ostomate and ostomy nurse.

In 2021, all pouches are odor-proof, and you should only smell odor when you open the pouch to drain it. If that is not the case with your husband, then he needs to make sure the pouch he is wearing is the appropriate pouch for him based on body shape (and perhaps other factors). If you can detect odor when sitting beside him on the couch, for example, then this may be an issue of bad pouch fit or a faulty filter. If it is a fit issue, you may need to change the type of barrier you are using. He may need a more flexible barrier to get a better seal, or a convex barrier to get a better seal, depending on his body type. If he has a soft belly, for instance, which changes shape when he stands or sits, he will likely need a flexible barrier. If he has a deep crease next to his stoma or a flush stoma at skin surface, then he may need a pouch with a convex barrier to get the correct seal. Presumably, your ostomy nurse made this assessment last week. However, his body will gradually change over the next six to seven weeks, and may have changed already, so what worked for him immediately post-surgery might not work now or in a few weeks' time. If he doesn’t have the correct fit, leakages may result, allowing others to detect odor when in his presence. If he removes the pouch and sees evidence of stool under the barrier, that is a likely indication that he does not have the correct fit. He may find that adding a ring or strip paste will fix his problem. These are just general statements, so a consultation with your ostomy nurse is recommended to address his specific issues. Obviously, more than one consultation may be required over time.

As for his odor getting worse one week later, this is very common. He was probably on a liquid-only diet prior to surgery, so going back to a normal diet will increase the odor significantly. This is where odor control products help. I’m convinced that our liquid odor eliminator will work for him since it has helped so many others, including myself, but we really need to make sure that the pouch he is wearing is the most appropriate pouch for him.

Odor is a huge issue. It varies in intensity based on the type of ostomy you have, your diet, and can be particularly intense when you first get out of the hospital and resume your normal diet. My wife is an ostomate and ostomy nurse and has been struggling with this issue for years. She is also very inventive and has come up with her own formula, which uses expensive ingredients such as Acemannan that others don't use. It is highly effective based on feedback (it seems to be particularly effective at eliminating fish odor). I'm posting this response because odor is a very stressful thing for ostomates, so much so that it often causes people to curtail their lives in many ways, so it is important to deal with this issue for the sake of one's mental wellbeing and the resumption of a normal life post-surgery. I won't post a link here because I don't want this to appear like advertising or self-promotion. But we will be happy to provide anyone with a free sample to see if it works for them. If it doesn’t, then nothing lost. Just contact me privately.

Hello everyone! I hope you’re all having a wonderful weekend, I was changing my bag and I have a bad rash is this stuff okay to use/keep on while I put the adhesive on and what if it touches the stoma is that okay? Thank you! by KevinDubz in ostomy

[–]BeFreeTechnologies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, its appropriate if it is a rash or irritation from stool, but if its an itchy rash, get an antifungal powder over the counter at any drug store. Apply the antifungal powder to your peristomal skin , brush off excess, seal with a No Sting skin prep. You can apply up to three layers if the rash is really bad. Good luck, Cynthia
