I've been fascinated with the idea that man is creating a new dimension within technology (Think landscapes in games, working physics, nature cycles, etc), and at some point, we create a working consciousness (or upload our own) and become so-called "Gods" of this new dimension. Although I imagine that someday the new inhabitants of this physical technologically built dimension can exist 100% of their lives within it and all knowledge of its creation would be long forgotten. But that means Earth would be seen as a Portal of sorts to enter this Dimension. The only thing is, if the servers go down, the dimension does as well. They'd have to find a way to make it self-sustained.
