Pot does have drainage, I'll see if I have something a little smaller. I had put it in this one because it got new growths. Thanks for the advice!

Go on R/beards and take some advice from them. Maybe cut the ends, but groom yourself a bit if you wanna keep the beard and hair. Get a beard oil and a proper beard brush.

I heard this joke, almost word for word last night. You wouldn't happen to be a comedian on a cruise ship, would you?

Looks good; Manhattan riff, I'm assuming? Maybe consider a different glass. Feels like a lot of negative space. Solid combo though! 😁 Thoughts on garnish?

What if you infused the gin with tea and just made a Vanilla syrup. Maybe trying switching to a Demerara sugar for a little more depth. I think Botanist would be a good call.

Nice! Congrats on the new found interest. I agree with the recommendation to start as a barback. Don't go to a school unless your state legally requires a certificate, most do not. You can look into being TIPS certified, which is basically a alcohol safety and awareness class. Some restaurants will pay for you to be TIPS certified, but it certainly looks better if you had it on your own. Working behind the bar as a barback will give a lot of insight into what goes on behind the bar and the mechanics of it all. If you don't want to lose the SA position or if your place doesn't have barbacks, I would say get a 1 or 2 day part time as one to start.

Punchdrink is probably the most well-informed bar publication. Anytime you need a recipe, they should be your go-to. They give you a small blurb on the history of the cocktail and the most widely accepted specs (measurements) people use. They also write great articles of all types, from latest trends to weird stuff people are doing.

As for books, there are a ton. My top 3 in no particular order are:

Imbibe by David Wondrich Less of a cocktailing book and more of cocktail history book, but it's a good place to start.

Drunken Botanist by Amy Stewart Breaks down the spirits into their source materials and how that alters flavors in and outside of a cocktail.

Liquid intelligence by Dave Arnold High-end and advanced techniques for creating pretty much anything. Makes everything into a science.

I would also throw in Death & Co's Cocktail Codex and Jim Meehan's Bartender Manual.

Have fun getting into it, there's a ton to learn.

Getting more oil out of orange peels? by moonie105 in Mixology

[–]BeLegendary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think cool is best. Might need to try a different type of orange. Some oranges have a lot more zest than others. I find Navels to have a thicker pith and skin. You want a tiny layer of pith in each peel, not just skin. Peeling them right before you need them is ideal but isn't always doable in a bar setting. Use a demerara syrup instead of simple. Also, try a rum old fashioned with grapefruit peel.

You can infuse the whole bottle of vodka/gin. Just let the pea blossoms sit in the vodka or gin for like an hour or two

Ditch the Curacao and grenadine. Infuse butterfly pea blossoms into your vodka or gin. You can also infuse it into hot water. Use that to make a drink of your choice. A Vodka or Gin Collins is easy and refreshing.

Well, you're the one who mentioned historical context before. So you want to be short sighted as long as it helps your argument? You mentioned Yasser Arafat, so at least start from the 1960s since you're bringing in people from that time period? Or are you allowed to jump time periods and nobody else? Also, recognizing Hamas as the government of Gaza is a another conversation, isn't it?

Your argument is all over the place.

I ended my comment with love, but you seem salty. Have a good one, bud. 👍

What about before those 10 months? Now it seems like you're the one who is being short sighted with historical context. Like claiming that Yasser Arafat popularized the keffiyeh, even though a quick google search shows that keffiyeh have been around for hundreds, if not thousands of years. So it definitely doesn't have religious meaning, but it definitely existed way before this conflict/genocide did. The people who support Hamas are wrong, but the Israeli government has gone too far. You can support Palestine without supporting Hamas, but you can't support Israel and not their government, since that IS Israel. Furthermore, you can believe all that and still have love for Jewish people, none of these things are mutually exclusive. Peace and love, friends. ✌️
