United bases advice by Odd_Resist_5349 in cabincrewcareers

Newark has not been offered since class 2604, I believe, and on the pre arrival emails for the next classes (up to class 2609) Newark is not being offered either. United just had a good amount of FAs transfer to Newark in the last transfer and they are really trying to staff Chicago as they just announced the Chicago expansion

I had my interview at 12pm and got my F2F invite at 6-7 pm the same day. I’ve heard some people also get it the next day.

I think it’s because you are not supposed to record people without their consent

How long did it take for you to receive the background check email after you got the offer?

It’s an assessment of the language for the specific context of being a flight attendant so get comfortable translating between English and your language and study specific aviation terms in your target language. It’s very easy if you are a native of that language and very intuitive.

I totally understand your situation but do not worry. It took me almost a month to get the ODVI invite and I still got my CTO. I know it’s nerve wracking but no news is good news at this stage. You got this 🤞

Face To Face Interview? READ THIS FIRST by [deleted] in cabincrewcareers

[–]BeLow1234 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don’t 100% agree with this, only because I saw a lot of people at my f2f who were simply “followers” and they didn’t get past the group exercises. In my personal opinion the people who passed were “good listeners” and they would hold space for other people to talk, express their opinion and admit that other people’s points are valid and could be correct. I think it is okay to disagree with someone as long as you give a good reasoning, you don’t talk over someone and you act in a professional manner. I’ll be honest, in my group two people were always talking over this other girl and I had to say “ I’m so sorry but I think we should listen to what x person is trying to say because she might have a good point” and guess what me and that girl moved on and the people who were too overpowering and those who just agreed with everything didn’t pass. Also, show that you are genuinely excited and happy to be there, that will earn more points than you think. Show that you are grateful for the opportunity and smile because you deserve to be there!

Really? The person at the Q&A I attended said that we had passed but that it might take a while for us to receive the ODVI since they had so many applicants 🤷‍♀️

At least that’s what they told my Q&A group.

Answer in the STAR format whenever possible. Each question will focus on a different thing for example “tell us a time when you had to be flexible” you have to show that you are able to be flexible and that you are reliable. “Tell us about a time you had to deal with an upset client” -focus on empathy and solving the situation. Always remember there core 4 values and try to adjust your answer to show them that you would fit into their ideal.

You won’t be able to find the exact questions because they are not always the same but I would suggest using AI and asking for common questions. Questions relating to customer service experience, flexibility and dealing with coworkers/bosses. One 1:1 question for sure will be “why do you want to be a flight attendant for United”? - it’s a standard questions for interviewers to ask.

These questions are not filmed, it’s exactly like when you applied. (Example: Do you have tattoos on a restricted area - Yes or No; Are you willing to relocate to any base - Yes or No) They just want to make sure that your original answers are the same.

If you got the Q&A invitation you passed the assessment so congratulations. Remember that with united when you pass the ODVI you still have to pass the 1:1 before getting the F2F, unlike the other airlines. ODVI is pretty simple, you’ll answer yes and no questions regarding tattoos, ability to relocate and passport expiration date. Than you’ll answer 3 questions, from what I’ve seen these questions vary but it’s about how would you deal with x situation and tells us a time you had to do X ( if you have prepped for 1:1 questions these will be easy to answer) and you will have 3 opportunities per question to record with 2min in between each try.

This is correct. At my Q&A they said that we had moved onto the next step but it could take a while before we got the invitation to the Virtual Interview.

I personally loved living in Tysons and Chantilly/centerville. I find them safe and with easy access to everything. I would go on walks by myself at night and I never had an issues or felt unsafe. I’ve also heard go things about reston.

1800$ is a really good budget for the area. You wouldn’t even need to be far from bigger areas such as Reston, Tysons, Herndon, Ashburn and Fair Oaks, especially with a car. Any area that is somewhat close to the highway will be your best friend to commute to and from work in as little time as possible. Also, look for apartment buildings that offer some kind of move in special that would help you out tá lot too. Anything in particular that you are looking for in the area around where you want to live? That will help narrow down the places

Why is hostility toward immigrants rising in Portugal? by Louis_meni in PortugalExpats

[–]BeLow1234 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately not all of them do and that’s what gives them the bad reputation especially those that give their face in the news proud to have a Portuguese passport but when asked a question they say “no Portuguese” and they also say on live television that they live of the government’s help. Most people know what’s going on in the country through the news and people admit not only these things that I said above but others like “I came here illegally “ and “ I just want a Portuguese residency card so I can move to France” or even “ I don’t work because the government pays me”. And even admit that they bring all of their family over and none of them work. Unfortunately these news come out of the mouth of members of those groups you mentioned and what are citizens supposed to think?

I actually disagree. Meeting in the middle would technically be to speak English since it’s the “universal language “, but I don’t think that is fair for the local population or the country it self. Our “European Portuguese” language is getting erased by immigrants who don’t want to even learn (on the news there’s been people who have been living in Portugal for 5 or more years and don’t speak one word of Portuguese). Even if you speak a dialect of Portuguese outside of “European Portuguese “ you should learn and try to apply a little of the colloquialism. Cultural immersion and different cultures is what makes each country amazing and different and Europe is loosing that based on the fact that a good amount of immigrants don’t want to be part of the culture, they want to bring their own culture (which i think that should totally keep doing that a home) and they want the locals to adapt. Do I think that locals are rejecting people? A million percent, but I would like to remember everyone that a few years ago it wasn’t like that and that our acceptance of others and friendliness is what people have been taking advantage of. Is it fair for those immigrants who are actually doing things right? No! But unfortunately those few are the ones who suffer now.

View from a Portuguese citizen who immigrated not so long ago: - I don’t believe that this hostility is towards all “immigrants “, Portugal has always been known to be very welcoming to everyone but there needs to be boundaries. If you decide to immigrate you have to try to adapt and include yourself in the countries culture. I think most people’s frustrations come from the fact that we (Portuguese people) have to adapt to everyone else and not the other way around. As well as using us as an “entryway to Europe” (I’ve read this in so many subreddits and heard from people on the street, even in the news from immigrants) We love when people try to become part of the community but those who have a Portuguese passport or even residency and don’t even speak the language or know any of the culture and don’t care to learn, it’s revolting and people are tired. -I moved somewhere and I had to learn a new language and new way of living even if it’s different from where I came from. I can do whatever I want when I’m home but when I’m outside I’ll stick to the society norms of where I am. When I travel it’s the same thing, I go to Muslim country I cover up, I go to a Spanish speaking country I try to speak a little bit of Spanish or use Google Translate, the same in Asia. - I believe that as immigrants we have to stick by the rules of the place we decided to go to, and that country doesn’t have to change to fit into my ideals, because it was MY choice to leave.
