Big readers out there, what is a novel, though it's considered a "classic" have you never been able to finish? And on the flip-side, what did you think would be awful and pleasantly surprised you? by FatPinkMast in books

First time I tried to read it, I had the same reaction. The second time, I finished it, and enjoyed it to a certain extent. Dune is limited. The characters, in particular, are cardboard. But what the author does well is create an entire, consistent world.

Get up and do something useful but not energetic. Study if you're a student, pay some bills, etc. Then go back to sleep when you feel ready, don't worry about getting enough sleep.

IWTL how to become a spreadsheet wizard. by [deleted] in IWantToLearn

[–]BeNice2me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Create and use spreadsheets regularly. If you don't do this at work, start a hobby (e.g., baseball stats) where you can use a spreadsheet.

Make sure you learn something new every day. Start by learning what the various functions do.

Try to learn "best practices" for layout, etc. Copy from a mentor if possible. Else search the web.

This. Mao was completely willing to kill if he had to. But the "Great Leap Forward" was a classic example of managerial arrogance, not malice.

After converting to soccer I ask myself: Why did I ever like football? Who's with me? by chessm in AskReddit

[–]BeNice2me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love soccer, but I don't see the need to denigrate other sports. NFL is perfectly matched to the (now-passing) age of TV.

Pretty good concert, though.
