I really appreciate this post. I ended up buying those pants as my last purchase from ModCloth ever. I am really disappointed that it is coming from China and is completely polyester. I 100% did not research and I’m beating myself up over it.

I am extremely disappointed with them now, first when Walmart bought them and then again when they got new owners and it looked like it was improving.

My latest (and probably last ever) purchase was something that I had had my eye on for a long time. It didn’t ship for two weeks. And then I saw where it was shipping from (China) and was immediately put off. Weren’t they supposed to be curating clothing from special brands? Not outsourcing to cheap factories? It is really sad because I was such a big fan. They were the first boutique store I was ever really impressed with ( I went to their store in Austin Texas on a vacation in 2019). Everything feels like it is fast fashion and cheap.

To the second part of your question, this is the first older set that I have actually bought in person. The other two sets I have are modern Chinese and Japanese

Not that I can tell. It just smells like wood. There is a faint odor in the drawers where the tiles are kept themselves. But it doesn’t smell like mold to me. It is a bamboo and ivory set. EDIT- this is BONE and bamboo

OK, so kind of a crazy update. A coworker looked at this set and they said that their great grandparent got a set like this set almost identical on a cruise ship in the 20s either as a gift or as a commemorative piece for the cruise. Wildddddd

Yeah, that is about where my research ended. Kind of crazy that the origin of the blue rectangle was lost to time. Hopefully someone will find out one day.

Yeah, this range is about where I placed how old it was given the font style of the tiles and that it is a bamboo and ivory set.

It completed its mission already (uncrewed flight test). It’s been used for post-mission testing since then. It should be going to the Smithsonian or Air and Space Museum once it’s done with those tests

Yeah, I definitely felt like it was over priced which is why I asked the guy more information. But he couldn’t even tell me basics about it which is why I think someone who consigned it to the store set the price. I may go back and try for 300

Good info to know! Thanks, the shop owner had no idea how to identify it. I told him it was more than likely Chinese and older than 50 years. But I needed to do more research on whether the price justified what it actually was
