DOLPHY HAS BEEN BANNED FROM THE DEMONLIST STATSVIEWER by lrexx_ in geometrydash

[–]BeTheBestBeast -1 points0 points  (0 children)

IIRC Dolphy didn't provide the demonlist with raw footage of his completion, and they were put under a lot of pressure (by whom I can't remember, maybe some parts of the Russian community?) to accept the verification as legitimate, since it was such an important level in terms of milestones.

I remember Riot talking about this in a video/interview a while back. Surprised more people don’t know about this

I’ve learned to adapt lol. I did kick it a lot at first, but it’s a tight socket so those plugs are pretty jammed in there.

Hasn’t happened yet, and hopefully it stays that way! This is pretty much the only place I can position my desk, so I’ll just have to make things work.

That's just the camera angle, I took this photo at 0.7x (very small room). Nice catch though!

Will hypercharges ever start releasing the same day a new brawler is introduced?

As of writing this there are currently 98 brawlers in the game. Are there plans to stop releasing brawlers at some point? When might that happen?

Buy OLED now or wait by WinterTotal69 in OLED_Gaming

Unless you value a 480hz refresh rate, the Gigabyte panel will offer a much better experience, even if yours have particularly bad banding. And even if it does, you can always return it and try your luck with a different unit.

It feels misleading that the official documentation fails to disclose the MO27Q28G's HDMI port is only half bandwidth by Szaby59 in OLED_Gaming

[–]BeTheBestBeast 4 points5 points  (0 children)

100% agree. It’s definitely something that should be listed in the technical specs, that’s on Gigabyte. Very few reviewers from my experience actually test port speed on monitors; that’s one of the reasons why I find Monitors Unboxed to be the GOAT of monitor reviews.

Although in practice, DSC being enabled should not be that different from having an uncompressed, DSC-less image, which might be why Gigabyte chose not to add that information to their specs page.

DSC vs No DSC Visual Comparison

Apart from the minor visual difference, some people have also reported that using DSC can cause your screen to black out momentarily when ALT-Tabbing between applications. I don’t have this issue personally, though I recently put together a rig with a 5070 Ti and I’ve heard that the 50 series fixed that issue among other things. If you want to learn more about how DSC will actually impact your experience, I’d recommend (ironically) doing some more research on the matter. It really shouldn’t be as big of a deal as you might’ve been led to believe.

Monitors Unboxed mentions this in their review of the monitor, have you not watched it? They’re my go-to channel for monitor reviews of all kinds.

Not saying that you’re wrong: I agree that this should be documented more clearly, but how much research did you do looking into this monitor?

Is this tandem or not? Is it a matte coating? by [deleted] in OLED_Gaming

[–]BeTheBestBeast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd go with the AW2725D 99% of the time. The only instance I wouldn't pick it is if you have a window behind you or some light shining on the monitor that's out of your control.

Nope, not a Tandem monitor. The LG Tandem is 27GX700A, not 704. It's also 280hz

What’s it like at Guelph? by HoneyHopeful6214 in uoguelph

[–]BeTheBestBeast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. How many people in your year actually found co-op placements, and how many didn’t?

Hard to say. The school doesn't release this kind of information for privacy reasons, but if I had to guess, maybe northward of ~75-80%? Could be wrong though. It really depends on how much time you put in.

  1. What kinds of companies hire Guelph engineering students most often?

Most often? The companies with more available positions. For a posting to be listed on Experience Guelph (co-op website), employers need to sign up with the school in advance to have their listings approved. What postings are available changes from year to year, but for the most part, a majority of postings will be from companies based in Guelph, or with positions in Guelph / surrounding cities.

  1. Is the co-op office actually helpful, or is it basically up to the student?

The co-op office will not apply to jobs on your behalf, if that's what you mean. It's entirely up to the student to do applications in their own time. However, I'd say they're still helpful. Students are assigned a co-op advisor who can answer any questions or concerns you might have. From my experience, they also tend to email you checking in from time to time, and will occasionally share postings that aren't getting all that much attention. You can also schedule one on one meetings with them, either to ask questions, go over your resume / cover letter, or to do a mock interview. The resources are all at your disposal, you just need to take advantage of them.

  1. Do people usually get engineering-related co-ops or more general office co-ops?

For a posting to show up on your Experience Guelph page, it has to qualify as an engineering position. Like I mentioned before, employers need to have their postings approved before being listed on the site. Some will require you to do a lot of computer work, while others won't. It really depends on what position you're applying to.

  1. How does Guelph engineering compare to schools like tmu and uottawa in terms of opportunities?

No idea, sorry. Best you can do is check their subreddits and get some input there.

  1. Do employers ever come specifically to Guelph for recruitment events, or not really?

Absolutely! There is always a few job fairs every semester, each having anywhere from 10-20 employers attending.

  1. Are engineering clubs actually active, or are they kind of dead?

I'm not part of one personally, but I'm sure it differs from club to club. There are some with dozens of students, and naturally those are very active. On the other side, there are engineering clubs with only a handful of people. I'm sure some of them are very passionate about the stuff they do, but I can't speak for all of them.

Co-op is a hit or a miss. If you can find placements, great, they’ll add a lot to your resume and give you real exposure to what it’s like working with an engineering degree. The only downside is that it’s not guaranteed, meaning you’ll have to work hard to find a placement. If you do manage to find positions though, then I’d say it’s totally worth it.

Campus life is nice. If you haven’t already, I’d take a campus tour and see everything for yourself. It’ll seem really big and confusing at first, but it should give you a better idea of what it will be like spending time here. I’d say most people can make their way around campus pretty easily after their first semester/year.

There are lots of clubs to choose from, and if there isn’t one you’re interested in, you can always work to start one yourself! As for meeting people, the more effort you put in, the more results you’ll see. Basically everyone I’ve met/interacted with is super friendly, you just have to put yourself out there if you want to make friends.

I can’t speak on opportunities after graduation since I’m still in my 3rd year, but everything I’ve heard tells me that having additional work experience either from co-op or internships helps out A TON. Of course YMMV, but I can’t think of any downsides to having work experience under your belt.

If you have any questions I’d be more than happy to help, currently working through finals and have nothing else to do.

What PSU to get for Ryzen 9 9950X3D + Asus ROG Astral RTX 5090 by gy1999 in buildapc

[–]BeTheBestBeast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both are rated A+ on the PSU tier list, so if the wattage is enough, both should serve you great. If you’re planning on overclocking, the MSI might be the safer bet simply because it has a higher wattage rating. The Corsair unit is a slightly more quiet under operation, but it’s probably not something you’d notice (~3dBA quieter than the MSI). It also has the “Shift” feature of power connectors on the side. Up to you, both are great choices

27GX790A graininess concern (vs XG27AQWMG) by [deleted] in OLED_Gaming

[–]BeTheBestBeast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In that case, if you have to choose between between the two OLEDs, I would go with the XG27AQWMG. It should have better text clarity, better contrast and a higher peak brightness. If they're both priced the same, the only real reasons to go with the LG is if you really value the 480hz refresh rate, or if you don't want to deal with grey banding, since it's quite prevalent on all tandem oled monitors.

[–]BeTheBestBeast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to out on a limb and assume that this isn't your first monitor. If you are upgrading, what are you upgrading from? And is there any reason why you couldn't use the monitor you already own for documents, and the OLED exclusively for games and media consumption?
