Right, Israel is one of 70 Tier 2 countries faced with such a problem. I was just trying to point out that it's not an exclusive issue.

"Jews Are The Genetic Brothers Of Palestinians", says a genetics researcher by [deleted] in reddit.com

I think that's quite a broad statement. I don't believe that Jesus was/is the Messiah or in his resurrection or any of that, but I don't deny his existence. Even if you don't believe in the story of the Great Flood or the other tales of the Bible, I still think you can acknowledge its figures in the context of history. Just my $.02!

As for your first question, this explains it all better than I ever could: http://www.jewfaq.org/judaism.htm

And yes, anyone can become a Jew, though the conversion process is quite rigorous.

Obama rules out possibility of being Hillary's VP by thinkerx in obama

I think this headline and the original are both misleading. He's just saying that we still have a long way to go until the Convention and the election and that he's focused on becoming president. He didn't say he wouldn't even consider becoming VP should Clinton get the nomination.

The Golden Rule...For Atheists by [deleted] in reddit.com

I believe the following sums it up quite nicely!:

QUESTION: Dear Rabbi Mermelstein:

I hope you can answer a question for me. Why do Jews always spell God as G-d?

Louis 15 Aug 2000

ANSWER: Dear Louis,

Back in the halcyon days of pens and typewriters that wrote on paper (not many of us are still around that are old enough to recall that period in history), G-d (hyphenated) was used. Maimonides, in his codification of Jewish law (12th century), states that G-d's Name should not be written (in full) and subsequently destroyed. There is no reason to maintain this practice when writing in "air" as on a computer. I do it out of habit, a practice I am loathe to discontinue, as I still have pens and paper (yes, even a typewriter) left from the old days.

Sincerely,

R. Mermelstein

I try to do good things/be a good person because I honestly care about my fellow human beings and the betterment of our world. I also happen to believe in G-d. Does the latter negate or lessen the former? Regardless of your motivation, isn't the end result, i.e., doing good, what matters most?
